Since last wednesday i've noticed Duke has had clumpy poos and i've had to help him a number of times to go to the toilet.
I've been giving him the probiotics and some metatone :)
Last night he did not eat at all :'( and this morning was distressed when i cleaned him out as he didn't want to be anywhere near his food :(
Again i noticed big clumps of poops instead of the pellets he normally does. I gave him the baby colic drops 0.2ml this morning and since then he's had his morning CC feed and two others, he's finally just eating some food by himself.
I'm wondering if there's anyother suggestions you lovely friends might have that i can make it easier for him as he's obviously not happy at having this big clump stuck to him until it either gets knocked off walking around in his home or i come home and help him :-\ If you think of anything let me know O0
Thanks guys :smitten: :smitten: :smitten: :smitten: :smitten: :smitten:

So sorry to hear poor little Dukey is still having problems Glynis. We've only had one boar so far with impaction problems, he still managed to pass his normal pellets just not the soft squishy ones (sorry, hope no one is having breakfast!). I used to tackle his bottom morning and night and gently eased the lump out - he wasn't impressed whilst I was doing it, but did seem happier once it was done! I have since read that you can use a cotton bud (Q Tip?) with a little mineral oil/baby oil to gently wipe around the anal sack and this helps to keep things lubricated and should make empty his sack a little easier.

I'm sure others will be along shortly with more advice, in the meantime give Duke a snuggle from me. :)

Thankyou both sooooooooooooooo much :smitten: :smitten: :smitten: :smitten: :smitten: :smitten: :smitten: :smitten:

Oh dear i can just imagine him if i use a Q tip, OMG :tickedoff: :tickedoff: :tickedoff: :tickedoff: and then :embarassed: :embarassed: :embarassed: :embarassed: he gets so offended poor little guy :(

I'll pass on all the loves from you both thankyou :smitten: :smitten: :smitten: :smitten: :smitten: :smitten: :smitten:

thanks for the laugh glynis i needed that O0 i can just picture duke with those big dark eyes looking at you, zoe and jessie and every piggy we have had has got that look down pact :o :o :o hoping something helps the poor little mite, maybe brendan has some suggestions? big hugs :smitten: :smitten: :smitten: and thanks for the smile O0

Poor Duke. :smitten: :smitten: :smitten: :smitten: :smitten: :smitten: :smitten: :smitten:

Jimmy gets impacted occaisionaly, diet worked for him, by that I mean lots of veggies and hay.
I know that won't help if poor Duke isn't eating well.
Jimmy doesn't like having his doodies fished out either :embarassed: :embarassed: :embarassed: :embarassed: :embarassed: but it's the only way I know.

Hope someone knows some better things to try. :smitten: :smitten: :smitten:

Hi,

Try and check him as often as possible. Some boars with impaction only need to be checked twice a day but I have had boys that need to be checked much mmore often. It is better to get the lump out before it starts to get hard.

The condition sometimes clears up,but most boars get it for the rest of their lives because the cause of impaction is loose or weak anal muscles.

Often boars with this condition will still be able to pass and ingest the larger softer pellets that they need to reingest. If not it is a good idea to get the boar to eat some of the lump--yes ,I know sounds revolting, but they will normally eat a bit and it is necessary because these pellets contain a vitimin B12 complex, which is why the pigs eat them. You could,if you prefer, offer the special pellets from another pig,.

Impaction is not a health threat or painful,if the boar is kept cleaned out.

Thankyou everyone for the lovely and encouraging words :smitten: :smitten: :smitten: :smitten:

Mary that's great info thanks, i'll make sure he eats some of the lump of poops, i don't mind after having 3 kids you get used to these things ::) ;D ;D ;D ;D

He seems today to be a little more comfortable i think the probiotics and the colic drops might be kicking and and helping O0
He's eaten a little more leafie stuff and then i noticed his bowl of pellets had been disturbed :smitten:
It's a pity he broke off both his top toofies again also (couple of days ago)..... one is just long enough for him to manage eating i really don't think this is helping tho >:( still having 4 feeds of CC a day and i got up during the night and checked on him and gave him some more leaves and encouraged him to eat some corn and cauli he was so sweet he just let me feed it to him, i had to go tho as i was freezing i was only in a little tshirt and boxer shorts ;D mmmm bed was lovely to crawl back into ..... it was only 3 over night so my feet were dam cold ;D ;D

so glad duke is doing a bit better :smitten: :smitten: :smitten: 3 over ni ght you had a heatwave as we had 1C over night and it was wet, wild and windy :o :o :o did you get the look when you woke him up in the middle of the night? >:( >:( >:( my piggies past and present have that look and know how to use it to their advantage O0 sending you and duke hugs and healing vibes :smitten: :smitten: :smitten: i don't know much about piggies but i know with humans more calcium is good for the teeth, they always say drink milk, eat yougart, cheese etc so perhaps try dukie on more calcium, just a thought ::) ::) ::) good luck to you both O0

Give Duke kisses from me and my lot, he is lucky nto have such a caring mummy :smitten: :smitten:
