Suggestion: Can we close re-homed piggies threads?

Hi Moderators

i have a suggestion for the re-homing section, it might not be possible but i thought i would put my idea forward. i've searched but i don't think anyone has brought this up.

Would it be possible for individuals to 'close' threads for piggies that have found homes? i noticed that the rehoming section is VERY big and its not clear to see what piggies are still looking for homes. i just thought it might be more helpful if the people that started the threads could close or some how tick or change something so that threads for piggies still needing homes would be clearer to see and piggies that have been rehomed could be removed or hidden or changed to a different colour or something?

i know deleting is a moderators only things but is there something we can do as forum users or could we have a 'moderators please close this thread' button that would send an email to a moderator to close/delete? or even the ability to Edit an old post so we can change the subject to 'Now Re-homed' maybe?

Like i said, this might not be possible but i thought i would put the idea forward

This, or some similar way of notifying people that guineas have been rehomed, is under discussion with mods at the moment. Some threads seem to be taken up with chat, which detracts from the guinea pig needing a home, and others have chat carrying on when rehoming has taken place. This is quite frustrating for people looking for a guinea pig, to trawl all the way through a threadful of chatter just to see that the guinea pig has actually been rehomed. Can be quite off putting. Hopefully a system can be put in place soon.
Also, perhaps is some rescues have 'lots' of guinea pigs available, some of the threads could be combined. xx

Great idea I was having a look through the other day and it was quite difficult to see which were rehomed or not. I like the idea of changing the title to state rehomed rather than closing, if this is an option and mods are able to do this, because sometimes the rehoming falls through. Unless, of course, threads can be reopened once closed in cases where this happens.

It would be good to be able to edit the subject line to update to 'Rehomed' or 'Update page 3' like on some other forums.

It would also be good if everyone could list piggies more uniformly, i.e

Home wanted - 2 sows - Norfolk / Suffolk

or similar!

Threads can easily be opened again when closed, by a moderator. x

We do already close threads when asked to by rehomers - we can only do it if we are asked however so the responsibility lies in the hands of the rescuers to let one of the team know (PM or report with a note saying 'rehomed please lock') and then we can close/edit the subject/title.

Even the editor of the thread being able to edit the first post would be quite good, that way in the initial posting it could be made clear that the pig is rehomed... That way, no need to trawl through pages and pages of chatter
