Sorry, new here, so hi!

What rescues are there in suffolk/south norfolk? I'm near bury st edmunds and am thinking about getting some guinea pigs. What sort of space should I have for them? Can they be outdoors if insulated well or is indoors the only way? What do the rescues round here want space wise?
Thanks in advance!

The RSPCA West Suffolk have an excellent guinea pig section; they are based in Bury ST. Edmunds.

There is also East Anglian Guinea Pig Rescue which rehomes to both Norfolk and Suffolk: http://eagpr.webs.com/

Both are on our map of recommendable guinea pig rescues and I can personally recommend both most warmly. it is always best to ask the rescue for their particualr requirements. You will need a minimum 2x4 ft (with boys ideally 2x5 ft) space and alternative winter protection if they are kept outdoors.

Just wanted to say Hi from Norwich x

Hi!

And thanks Weibke, Ill have a look what they have. Ive seen the shop in bury for the RSPCA but I thought that was just a shop, are the piggies in foster homes? How does the space needed go up for a trio or more if I was to have a mini sow herd?

Hi

It usually an additional foot per piggy so for 3 girls 5ft x 2ft, for 4 girls 6ft by 2ft etc :)

Brilliant! Thanks. I have a 4ft indoor cage, or a 5ft hutch with a hutch hugger etc, might see if I can get a pair and see how it goes. Are they ok with floor time indoors if theyre indoor piggies and what about outdoor piggies extra exercise? A run in summer is simple enough, but in winter poor things would be cold!

Just wanted to say hi, I'm from red lodge :-) I can personally recommend west Suffolk RSPCA as that's where one of my boys came from. There are so many gorgeous piggies there all looking for their forever home xx
My 2 live indoors so their free time consists of opening the cage and letting them roam around the house :-)

Thanks and hi!

I think I'm going to make sure Ive got everything prepared and give west suffolk rspca a call, but they dont seem to have many pairs on the website :(

I suppose its a good thing if all the piggies are going to new homes, Ill just have to wait til some come up :)
