I have had my piggies for nearly 2 weeks and suddenly one is rumble strutting quite a bit. She is the dominant one but seems to chase Grace around. Then they'll be fine again. It's been noticeable for the last 3 days. Everything ok?

Yes, your sow is likely coming into season. That is often mixed it with a renewal of recently established dominance.

Please take the time and have a look through our new owner's information kit. It has lots of guides on guinea pig behaviour as well as how to settle in guinea pigs and understand them. You may find it very helpful. We have bundled all the most often asked questions by new owners together with some important need-to-know information.

Ours do this when they are coming in to season. Usually lasts a couple of days and then all calms down again. Our dominant sow is the worst, she gets really huffy, even starts re-arranging the cage.

She may be in heat. It usually goes on for a few days and then goes back to normal. Some pigs are more affected than others, and some seasons may be more noticeable than others. One of my past pigs almost had a split personality, she was so meek normally and so pushy when in season!
