Hi everyone,
I’m at a bit of a loss about what to do! Our lovely guinea pig boy is around 2.5 years old, he has such a funny personality and is so special to us, he loves cuddle times and is usually very affectionate, he gives us lots of kisses, and cuddles with us for ages. The last week however his behaviour seems to have changed... when my mum cuddles him he nudges her hard and bites her on her neck which is really painful. Today he bit my top really hard and then later proceeded to bite my ear. He’s never been like this before so we are worried. we wondered if it may be mites but he has no other symptoms like hair loss etc so not sure it could be that? He lived with our other male piggy until he unfortunately passed away in October. so now he lives alone and he seems to have coped well and adapted, In fact he actually turned a lot calmer and has seemed content As he was always quite dominant to our other guinea pig, we give him lots of attention and long cuddles everyday, we don’t really want another guinea pig right now if we can help it as we’re not in a great financial position and we’re still healing from losing our beloved Chestnut, but I’m now wondering if the aggression may be a delayed response to being lonely? Or perhaps a health problem? He seems completely fine other than this in himself, he is very active and is eating well. We are torn on what to do, we asked the receptionists at the vets earlier for advice and they said they’re unsure what it could mean. We’re also worried his eye may be bulging slightly ? Not sure if we are just paranoid though as we have had a hard few years losing our pets so I’m constantly worrying. I will attach an image , in the image it is the eye on the left we are slightly concerned about but didn’t know if you guys thought it looks slightly bigger or not? He may just have one eye slightly larger and we haven’t noticed until now but not sure. Any advice would be greatly appreciated, think if he continues we will get him to a vet appointment next week to see if they have any ideas. Thank you in advance and sorry for the super long message!

Hi and welcome

Please take the time to read these guides here. What you are experiencing is your boy treating you as his piggy group and trying to establish dominance, lacking piggy company. You should find the guides below both very interesting and helpful in understanding what is going on and what you can do. If at all possible, please find him a companion of his own kind. Guinea pigs don't grieve any less deeply but they can't afford to grieve as long as humans.
