Tonight my younger guinea pig of the 2 we have, Luna, suddenly passed away without a hint of being unwell.

She's always been very feisty and full of personality, and was up until her untimely death-and it happened so fast I didn't even get to comfort her, let alone know anything was wrong.

Though I know that since adopting her, she is prone, and as gotten very ill from 2 UTI's very quickly. However would a UTI be so swift in getting her so ill to the point of death? The last I'd seen her was just the night before when her bedding was cleaned, and she seemed as loud an energetic as usual.

I’m very sorry for your loss. I’m afraid we would be purely speculating as to the cause of death - guinea pigs are prey creatures so hide their illnesses well, making it very difficult to spot signs of illness and to get them treated. I hope that your other piggy is ok since Luna passed. Here is our guide to caring for a bereaved guinea pig Looking After A Bereaved Guinea Pig

I am so sorry for your loss. I just wanted to reach out as I know how hard this is, having lost my lovely milly piggy 2 weeks ago suddenly and with no warning. Like your piggy, she was eating just fine and was her usual self the evening before I found her.

I took my bereaved piggy bramble to the vets the next day for a full check over just to make sure it didn't look to be anything contagious- the vet said she seemed fine. Might be an idea to get your bereaved piggy a check up just to put your mind at rest? It helped me feel better about things anyway. Bramble now has a new 7 week old piggy buddy and they adore each other already. Big hugs to you and your bereaved piggy ❤️

I’m so very sorry for your loss :( Sadly without a post mortem, it is impossible for us to say how or why your piggy died. But guinea pigs are prey animals and hose their illnesses very well. Please be gentle with yourself as you grieve x

So sorry for your loss.
Sadly these things can happen and it leaves us numbed.
Be g with yourself as you grieve

I feel your grief. I have never lost a guinea pig but am quite close at the moment. I arrived home and was told that Albus was very ill with pneumonia and had been given antibiotics by the vet and might not pull through.
I am sorry for your loss. I hope you and your piggy recover.

I'm really sorry for your loss. For myself, the pigs I've lost have gone pretty quickly in most cases... seemingly fine in the morning to seeming off in the afternoon to passing away by evening. There hasn't always been an obvious illness that I could identify. Respiratory illnesses can develop and kill very quickly. Unfortunately, you may never have a clear answer. Many ((HUGS)), it's never easy to lose a pet.
