Sudden odd behaviour?

I've been using vetbed in both piggy homes with puppy pads underneath, for months and both pairs look cozy and content on it. In the last 2 weeks both pairs have started tunnelling underneath the vetbed and nibbling at the puppy pads. I'm getting a bit worried as the plastic backing will be going into their digestive system. Has anyone else's piggies done this? Its a bit strange that both pairs have started to do it at the same time. Both pairs are in the same room, but have some space between them. Any suggestions anyone?

Some piggies try and get under the fleece, it is quite hard to stop them I am afraid. Our friends have a burrower....

If you are concerned by the amount of puppy pads been eaten if may be worth switching to towels?
