I'm just curious, my 3.5 year old sows who seem to be sisters, and lost their husboar last month who they lived wih most of their lives, have both suddenly developed dewlaps!

Is it a hormone thing or dominance thing? He never really bossed them about. Having had a husboar is it better to find them another? They're getting on fine.

Hi! It is a sign that they have likely been eating more since their loss... ;)

As to more company, please contact Hazelcroft Guinea Pig Rescue for potential dating, so you come home with a new companion, whether that is a neutered boar or a pair of sows only if acceptance has happened and you are not in danger of ending up with two parties that don't get on. Older sows past ideal pup bearing age (they unfortunately never stop) are a lot pickier when it comes to company than young sows!

Hi see my previous post, I have added the answer to that question in there. ;)
Oh sorry I missed all that! Yes thanks I followed this guidance when I introduced the boar to them 3 years ago.
I wondered whether they would be just as happy without, or whether they'd be happier with a new boar. Or there isn't a general rule on that.

There is no general rule on that; it is all down to personality, especially with older sows. All you can do is give it a try!
