My guinea pig, Oreo, died very recently, he was 4 months old and was having a few problems before he passed that I think had something to do with his death. First he had diarrhea, which I researched about and didn't seem very alarming and I made changes to prevent him from having it. He was still having the problem for a while, maybe a week or two. Then he started having green buildup of something on his chin, I had no idea what it was, was thinking maybe the lettuce? It was very odd, but it was all over his chin. He then started having problems getting his poop out, I had to help him sometimes because I would check on him again and they would still be there. I would have taken him to the vet, but I didn't think these were all big problems because I read a lot about all of them and everything said these were normal things that happen sometimes. The day he died, he was curled up into a ball a few hours before he passed. He also didn't seem to gain much weight considering he ate all of his food and fresh veggies. If any of these symptoms are all adding up to a cause of death that could have been the reason he passed, please let me know.

I'm very sorry for your loss!
Unfortunately, we can't diagnose an illness from afar.
Diarrhea can be just a little problem, but it can also be a symptome of something more sinister going on. It's important to always take a piggy with any signs of sickness to a vet who knows his way around guinea pigs. (I know that it can be difficult to find a cavy savvy vet.)

I can't say if Oreo's death is linked to the fact that he didn't see a vet, but it can't be ruled out either. I'm very sorry that I don't have better news for you.

Sleep tight, little Oreo! :(

I’m sorry for your loss

I have to agree with Viennese Furbabies - we cannot know but with such an amount of issues he needed to see a vet. Everything you have said he had happening was a problem and none of them were ‘normal’ issues - full diarrhoea on its own (rather than soft poops) is considered an emergency and needed a vet immediately.
I’m sorry for your loss.

Make sure you weigh your new piggies every week as part of routine care. Any weight loss or medical issue always requires you to see a vet.
