Hi all

Bit of a strange one but someone may look at this and think oh yeah it’s probably this..

Anyway, tonight I went to get my guinea pig Snoopy in from the run, he is 3 yrs old, lives in the outer house and goes out in to the run in the day. As a history, he has been treated twice for chest infections with good results then is otherwise asymptomatic. The vets thought that it’s recurring chest infection, didn’t worry about heart failure at this point or enlarged heart, I did question that as from my experience I didn’t want that to be missed. The vet said if he was symptomatic again then he would go for x rays.
This was nearly a year ago, and no symptoms since then.
Not lost weight and otherwise his usual happy self
Tonight I picked him from the run, he was munching on grass, I realised when I held him he was munching. Then he started to get aggitated in my arms and wriggling, then making a clicking sound.
I put him back in his cage and he was walking around rapidly and then flopping down and then getting back up, with loud clicking noises. I was thinking URI or obstruction from food but his airway looked clear, no signs of cyanosis. I was dialling the emergency vet when he literally got up and stared eating his cucumber and then walked over to the water bottle to drink, like nothing had happened! His noises seem to have gone as well.

Any ideas guys? I’ve got antibiotics and Metacam handy in my at home pet pharmacy, so I may give him a dose tonight to cover, I know it’s naughty but if it’s URI it covers for that until he goes to vets tomorrow, I don’t think it warrants out of hours now, as he is otherwise his usual self
... in fact now he’s ripping his new box up!

any other suggestions would be gratefully received!
Thanks

I’m sorry your boy is causing such puzzlement. I wouldn’t give him the meds but rather wait till he’s seen the vet. Hope he’s all better soon.

Aw, hope Snoopy’s alright, that is puzzling, sending healing vibes x

Thanks, I’ve just gone to check on him, he’s got that clicking noise again but otherwise settled and asking for food as normal.. so could be another chest infection! Will see what vet says tomorrow

xx

All the best!

If the clicking sound is coming from the lungs, it could be a sign of pneumonia. I am keeping my fingers firmly crossed. Good that you have already booked him in.
