After 2 years of trying to find bedding for my two boars that doesn't stink my conservatory out I've finally succeeded yippee.
I've stopped using the vet bed and gone back to puppy pads sprinkled with care-fresh granules, then a layer of scented sawdust either lemon or lavender and then hay guess what it works and smells wonderful. Best bit is my boys like it too.
I change the whole lot every fourth day but think it would last longer. Plus I daily poop pick.
Anyone with the same concerns try it no more piggy whiffs and I can sit in my conservatory reading in comfort. Hooray:<>

Sorry to tell you this but scented shavings are not healthy for guinea pigs as the chemicals can be bad for them to breathe in as well as irritate their skin.

I just put hay straight on top of disposable inco pads and there's no pong. I change any wet hay daily and the pads last a week (possibly less in hot weather). My wiglets live indoors and I've always found fleece or vetbed to be the stinkiest bedding. Hay has always been the least stinky and the preferred choice of the pigs.

I use a thick layer of newpaper, then a wood shavings, then soft barley straw and with 4 piggies it only starts to smell after 7 - 10 days and they are in my living room.x

i wouldn't use anything scented, it can really irritate them. even when nothing is obvious, it can still be doing damage inside the nose. :...

I think I must have really stinky piggies cos I have to change them everyday...sometimes twice!they are on a thick layer of newspaper with puppy training pads on top then the hay..If I change them at night I can literally smell them as I enter the living room in the morning...I have a good supply of yankee candles to mask the smell! There is no way I could leave them any longer than a day without stripping the indoor cage...they would be knee deep in poo! & we would have to wear gas masks! I do a poo pick every few hours when I'm at home but cant do that when I'm in work... my hubby reckons they are the most spoilt piggys in merseyside cos I spend more on them than I do on him...probably true..... but they are much cuter!

I find hay as a bedding very smelly after a few hours, once it has been pee'd and poo'd on, same with fleece and just shavings.

The way i have (posted above) is the best way for us.

x

I have puppy pads and hay.

They are fairly stinky and till I find somewhere to live they are in my room. I think I may try pads and sawdust.......with hay on top or perhaps in the litter tray...
