My piggie had abscesses and had them operated on, one got infected and is still healing. He's been on newspaper this whole time basically. I did try fleece and removed and replaced daily but he wee's on it so much it's disgusting. However we are getting through so much newspaper i'm running out a lot of the time, as I like to clean twice a day. And they're also started munching the newspaper and pushing it to one side and generally messing up their cage.
Anything else I can use? The wound isn't too bad any more so don't know if it is safe to go back on sawdust or not.

When Minky was recovering from illness I used baby changing mats which are similar to puppy pads but bigger. I got them in Home Bargains a packet of 10 for £2.99. They're about 90cm long. You can just change them daily or as necessary. For general use I would not use sawdust or shavings as they are bad for guinea pigs. I'm currently using Auboise which is made from the inner of the hemp plant & is very good with wee as the moisture drops to the bottom leaving the top dry. I spread a thin layer of hay on top of the Aubiose. You can buy or order from most farm stores I get from Farmway at £12 a bail which lasts weeks.

What about puppy pads - you can get good deals on eBay or if you have a B&Ms near by - they sell them for £4.99 for 30.

I use fitch in the boys hutch - it is very soft, dust-free and absorbent

White towels.
When my piggy was neutered, I put him on white towels and change 3 times a day.
With white towels you can watch for bleeding.
Plus it's easy to wash and bleach.

I agree with the above puppy pads I've used them and Vetbed in the past for sick piggies. I wouldn't use Shavings if the wound is still open as they could get into the wound and cause infection.
