Do the second sows in the hierarchy normally step between the dominant sow and the prospective husboar who are trying to resolve the hierarchy battle and bump them both under the chin? Or am I reading this wrong and is the lower rung sow actually the boss? Ellie has been doing this with Rose and George. When he approaches Ellie, she uses the same tactic as she did with the very bossy Holly mentioned in my other thread and gives him a slight nose sniff before point blank ignoring him or bouncing out of the way.

I am not a behaviour expert by any means, but I do know that some piggies seem to be natural peace makers.
In the past when we have had various girl dramas (as they sort out their hierarchy), Eddi will often position himself between the two girls, or walk directly up to one and place his head over hers.

I don't really understand why, as sometimes he just makes himself scarce when things get heated, but other times he is definitely acting as a peacemaker (and it seems to work too).

I think the more pigs you have, and when your group is composed of both a male and females, the behaviour patterns and whole dynamic become more complex.
