What stupid people have you met/heard in pet shops? Just curious :P

Today I went to have a look in my local pet shop (which I no longer buy from so I havn't been in for months, well since they got chinchillas, bunnies, piggies and rats :() and anyway there was some posh looking woman in there and she said to one of the staff;
Women: Do you ever have any black rabbits?
Staff: Yeah have you looked at them round the back? We have some small ones there
Women: I saw them, but I was wondering if you ever have any small ones?
Staff: We occassionally get some miniature lops in, I think we have some at the moment actually (think that's what they're called - no idea - bunny people will correct me :P)
Women: You had some last weekend, we saw them. He (she had her son with her) wants one that doesn't have the floppy ears...he wants a small black rabbit with sticky up pointy ears.

Gah, found it kind of funny her explaination but felt sorry for the poor bunny her spoilt little son wanted.

Sooo..what stupid people have you heard in pet shops where you just wanna go and slap them :P

Janeeee

Yes if Mini Lops, Cashmere Lops have the correct ear carriage their ears will always hang down - something to do with the ear cartialage and as I'm a bit leaning towards breaking the rules I'd shut up now.

I know what you mean in some pet shops SOME pet shop workers do not know that much about piggies - give me your job please lol

seriously we could do a better job in a pet shop than half of those retards,I'm still thinking about starting my own :-\

i cant think of any at the momement
but there is a pet shop near us, that i was tempted to buy
but it has,nt sold yet, so there must,nt be much buinessness

Please don't use that term.

Using the word 'retard' like that is highly offensive, it's basically claiming that people from suffering from mental and/or physical retardation are idiots.

I think a new rule has come in about people running pet shops. I think they have had to have some sort of training before opening up.

As far as I know, that's been around for a while - the PCT course in Pet Shop Management. Basically one person working there needs this qualification, anything extra is optional. They usually expect you to have completed it or be expecting to complete it within 12 months of the shop opening.

Anyway, on topic, I work in a pet shop so yes, i've heard some rather odd things from customers in my time...

The most recent one was a girl who was after some guinea pigs...so asked for the 'most popular, rare or sought after'! 98)

I told her that different people had different preferences...so where one colour might be sought after by one person, somebody else might not like it...it's up to YOU what you like, not other people!

So she said 'oh right, well what do you like?' So I told her that I had seen a beautiful grey guinea with pink eyes once...at which point she said 'right, well phone me if you get one of those in then'! 98)

I should have told her that the most sought after guineas were the white with pink eyes (i.e. the ones most people DON'T like!) and she'd probably have believed me ;D

And of course, the old chestnut of 'fish will only grow to the size of the tank won't they' ::)

Yes, if you want it to have severely stunted growth and dian agonising death 98)

But how else do you describe a bun that isn't a lop?! We say ours have sticky-up ears! I must sound stupid a lot in pet shops then!

Hmm I guess that's true Katie...sorry. I just thought it sounded silly, I guess there's not any other way to descirbe them then? I'm not sure about rabbit breeds though :P

No its OK, not having a pop, but I wondered how do you describe a non-lop bun!

Don't worry I knew you wouldn't mean anything like that...ermm...i'm not sure to be honest :P Bunny breed experts, we need you ;)

I call non-lops by their breed, ie, Dutch, Argente, Californians, Swiss Fox, Havana, Swiss Fox, etc O0
