Hi all! I hope you’re all doing well. This is going to be a somewhat long post so I apologize in advance.

I have a male GP named Bugsby. He’s around 3, maybe 3 1/2 years old. I’ve had him since he was probably close to 6 weeks old from a Pet Store.

Last year started a small battle with a URI. It went away after a month or so of trying different meds.

Around 3 months ago (perhaps a little longer even) he started with another URI. However, this one has been very stubborn. Every two to three weeks I have been back and forth to the Vet, getting different medicines. The medicine works for a week or so after the medicine is supposed to be finished, and then he’s back to breathing awful and whistling from his nose. His last medicine was a combination of two different medicines and seemed to work the best out of all of them. However, it has been a little over a week since his last dosage and he’s now breathing pretty bad. Even my dad who doesn’t really notice anything wrong with our GPs (as he just doesn’t pay attention to them like that) noticed that his breathing was awful. The Vet gave an extra two days worth in case Bugs needed it while waiting for an appointment date (which he will need it as his vet is closed both today and tomorrow due to July 4th being a holiday) and I’m planning on taking him back to the Vet as soon as they open. However, is there anything I can do to help the chances of the URI returning/sticking around lower? Or anything I can do to get rid of a stubborn URI in combination with the medicine?

Hi! I had a sow with a similar issue to yours. You may need to go to a specialist exotic vet but you can get a bacterial culture done so they know exactly what bacteria is causing the issue. This way they know exactly what medicine to use. You could also try a nebuliser - it really helped my sow. You can use antibiotics in a nebuliser (tell your vet first so they can give you the correct dose) or just saline - both can really help.
How long do you give your piggy the meds for?
Hopefully this makes sense :)

Hi, thank you so much! I’ll bring these suggestions up with the Vet when they open back up.

The medicines have all been twice a day for two weeks.
