Hi
My guinea pigs started off in an outside hutch with hay and shavings, I then moved them inside with shavings and hay rack. The shavings were getting all over the floor so I switched to vetbed, trying to poo pick regularly but still finding when I washed it that bits of hay, the odd dropping and the girlies fur where collecting in the washer so then I had to clean the washer out and still hair etc was getting on our clothes so I really don't think vetbed is very hygienic in that respect - I want something disposable that isn't going to cost a lot of money. Any suggestions please?
Thanks

I tried newspaper and fleece but because of burrowing and the task of washing it I switched to just newspaper and hay. It was the best thing I ever did because it's so easy to clean out. I simply roll the paper up with everything contained it all in one go. Then a quick brush out and some cage cleaner and it's done.

The girls are happier too because they love burrowing under the hay-after all its their natural habitat and they need to do that.

Personally I use fleece and newspaper and it works a treat.

I tuck in the fleece all around the CC cage and when it comes time to clean I carefully grab the sides and lift it up (so any poop, food, hay) stays in the middle. I then have a large storage container (like giant tub) and shake it in there until it's all gone. Then I just chuck it in the wash! Works a treat.

Personally I would love to have hay in mine but we all have allergies and the hay really doesn't help so I just have a litter box of hay in the cage.

I use shavings and hay but mine are outside. Personal reference really, just try some out and see which ones you like best! -c

I have to second this, I have tried fleece (too much washing for 9 guineapigs!), megazorb (very good), woodshavings, cardboard bedding etc and I found I was filling up bin liners all the time and filling the bins up too quick. (I have a playhouse for some of my piggies so it takes alot of bedding)

I read in Peter gurney's book he just used newspaper and hay, best thing I have ever done! Takes 5 mins to roll up and I put it in the green bin, cheap, not dusty, and they love to snuggle in the thick layer of hay!

I use newspaper on the bottom and then shredded paper on top.
As someone mentioned above with their newspaper and hay, this also is very quick to clean. Roll it up, place it in a bag and its done.

I love it and the piggies seem to like it too. I've gone through many types of bedding and this was my personal preferance eventually.

I think everything comes down to personal preference, how many cages, size etc.
I now use a mixture of vetbed and cardboard & hay bedding.
I have 7 cages so a trip to the tip every few wks is something I have to compromise with instead of continuous washing of fleece.
