Can anybody please help.

I have an 8x6 ft shed that I have stripped and woodstained ready to make into a large open playground for my guinea pigs. I've always wanted a guinea pig village!.
I spent all weekend trying to get c&c to work but must admit I hate the stuff now. It's not good for sheds and everytime I touch a bit to clean out the wet hay it just falls apart.

Does anybody have any other ideas of what I could use please?

A friend suggested getting a pasting table and cutting the legs down then adding a wooden edge as a wall and somehow using this as a second level.

Any other suggestions would be great please.

I currently have 8 piggies living together but know that the shed has potential to hold at least another 4.

Many thanks
Claire

i know its not quite the same thing, but we bought a massive summer house and made it into a 2 level playhouse for the kids a few years ago and made a ladder. It was pretty easy to do, and I'm going to try the same in a smaller shed for the bunnies in the summer!..

make a frame with some wood we used 2x2 and drilled round the shed and across, to make a platform (obv for piggies it wouldnt have to be as sturdy as we had to), then got a large sheet of chipboard to make the second floor and wood. Drilled section out for ladder (B&Q etc also do this for only about 50p a cut) The ladder we made like a normal ladder. For the rabbits (and hopefully I'm doing a piggie one soon too) I'm just going to scale it down, so that there are 3 floors with a ramps running criss cross through (so not too steep)

Hope you understand what I mean! lol.. its hard without pictures.. and I dont have any.. they are on my pc that broke :(

Good luck and hope it turns out great! x

I envisage it working using wooden battens (say 2" x 1") screwed in around the shed wall and then 1" thick sheet of MDF cut to size to sit on top of the battens. Then you could make the front section out of the c & c with the connectors screwed down into the MDF for security and as an extra precaution, use cable ties too. Depending on the weight, you will likely have to have something in the middle underneath to support it, such as another wooden batten/battens which will act like legs. You could have a section cut out of the MDF like a hatch for the ramp? they cant get to the MDF to chew it as you will have correx or something lining it. :)

I have no idea why a shy emoticon comes up when I type 1", maybe it is just my dirty mind!

Thats exactly what i would do. I would put some lino on the floor as well as that is what i have in my Bunny shed and its a god send so easy to sweep up and mop out. I got a piece of lino for about 20 quid 7x5ft it was an off cut and the carpet shop even gave me the roll tube it was on which we cut up and use for the piggies to run through as they make great tunnels. x)

This is the 'hutch' I made for the guinea pigs in the shed, for the winter months....
