Hi everyone,

Since separating the two boys I’ve noticed that Diego’s weigh smells stronger than normal? He has had a really mild case of stress cystitis in the past but I’ve noticed he is going to the toilet in the same corner of his cage so wonder if that’s contributing to the smell? I changed his bedding on Friday evening and he goes on a bobbly bath mat so it’s been two/three days. He hasn’t shown any other symptoms of a urine problem - he’s eating, pooping and everything fine and maintaining weight. I’ve noticed in the last few months that he’s been drinking more (some days he drinks more than others and other days he doesn’t drink much at all) so didn’t suspect anything and put it down to the warm weather. When the boys were together I also noticed a slight smell (put it down to them being boys) so I don’t think the strong urine is caused by the stress of them being separated as he seems fine in himself.

I should add that I put puppy pads/newspaper down under the bedding and haven’t noticed any blood or anything either.

I’ve now put some fleece bedding down where he has been going to see if that helps with the smell but I wondered if anyone thought it was worth a vet trip?

Thank you

I would pop him to the vet just to make sure there’s nothing going on. How is his bottom and does he squeak when toileting?

Stronger/stale smelling urine can indicate a cystitis/infection, so it is worth seeing a vet if you are worried.

Thanks for the replies everyone - sorry for the delayed response it’s been crazy at work so only just managing to check your responses!

I rang the vets and she’s said that I can bring a urine sample up on Friday when I take Dougal for his op to remove the lump! 👍🏻 Hopefully it’s nothing major as his bottom looks normal and he doesn’t squeak that I’ve noticed @Siikibam ☹️

Thanks again everyone ☺️
