Hi, first post and new here so not too sure about rules and such :).
I have a 3? year old guinea pig. all of the time i have had her she has scratched until there are raw red patches of skin, not really to the point of bleeding though. there are no visable bite marks so it has been assumed its her own doing. she came with large patches and dirty fur so went to the vets and thought mites so she was treated for mites. it got better but not fully healed, but it eventually got better as she settled in. problem is it keeps comming back the most recent time vets have said that shes probably stressed and scratching herself and they cant do anything. she is blind in one eye, the vet found no cause and said it was likely since birth . she lives with 5 other guinea pigs there is no bullying going on. she does have a equally shy friend pig with her, who is young and perfectly healthy.
when I thought she had mites she was being cleaned daily and isolated first time ofc. then now they're being fully cleaned weekly with daily spot cleans and hay box.
I'm wondering if anyone has had their vet tell them this? the vets seemed quite competent so I assume what the say is true. what could I do to reduce her stress ? or help soothe her skin maybe?
thanks for reading :)

Hi and welcome

How many rounds of vet strength ivermectin treatment was each course? Just one application or 3-4 rounds at the product specific interval? Did you deep clean the cage?

To begin with -

Can you confirm that she has had a full course of ivermectin (ie three separate treatments with two weeks between each treatment) along with full disinfection of the cage (she didn’t need to be isolated - all piggies needed to be treated and F10 used to disinfect) and anything that can’t be disinfected with F10 thrown away.

Was a fungal infection also considered? Ivermectin won’t cure that.

it was a full course of the treatment, I'd assume ivermectin but I'm not sure and I also don't remember exactly how long or many it was but it was multiple spot-ons thru vets direction .
she was only isolated when I first got her until I thought she was healthy, not this recent time because if she was sick I'd have to treat everyone anyway.
the disinfectant was some pink stuff that was recomended by the vet and iv just had a quick Google and I don't think it was F10.
since then she has moved cages to communal cage that gets cleaned with bleach or vinegar and rinsed sometimes dish soap but she has not been treated for mites since being in there, i haven't had anyone ill while in there.
I'd hope that fungal infections would've been considered by the vet before they claim they cant treat her ? I can go to a different vet if this advice seems wrong though
