I know we shouldn't use strwa for piggies but not why. I have straw for my Hens and it is finely chopped so very small pieces. Would that be OK to use for piggies as I am housing them in the conservatory and it can get a bit chilly at night in winter. I have Hay in there but I worry they will eat it all before morning and get cold.

I understand regular straw can often cause eye poke injuries as it's very stalky compared to hay, but I know some people use a soft, chopped straw instead for their guineas. I don't know what it's called though I'm afraid.

I have used short cropped straw for the past 3.5yrs with no problems, as you say it's lovely & soft but i do top it with hay :)

Thank you. :)p

I think I will use the straw I have as it is as soft as the hay and it's fine for my chickens.
