Hi all, just joined this amazing forum!

We adopted 2 brothers recently and we have fallen in love for them, they are very funny and cute, they are our door piggies and so far no issues.

But! What's the low down on straw, we've had advice saying no and others saying yes, we have had straw that is suitable for them and just got some that doesn't say either way.

Can someone guide us please?

Thank you

Straw is a definite no. It's too scratchy and hard as a bedding and can cause eye injuries. It has no nutritional value as a food. Nice soft meadow hay is good for both and other hays like timothy are good for eating.

I agree with the above- straw is considerably thicker and tougher than hay. Being rather uncomfortable for the piggies to nest in and making the risk of poking eyes alot higher. As said above it is hay that guinea pigs eat- actually makes up 80% of a guinea pigs diet and should be supplied 24/7. I also advise a meadow hay or timothy (any with less dust is best!) For both nesting in and eating. :)
