My Fermi had just been diagnosed with an ear infection. She's already been to the vet and prescribed antibiotics. She's ok, but it was her twin, Luna, who let me know something was wrong. Fermi was hiding away in her house, which she normally does. But Luna was out in the middle of the cage and standing very tall. Usually she's very timid and runs away when someone walks by. But it seemed like she was trying to get someones attention. I checked on Fermi, and she stumbled out of her little house with her head tilted. After going to the vet, I put Fermi back in her cage. Luna was very happy to have her back, and started grooming her. Then a little later on, I tried to take Fermi out of her cage to check on her. Luna got really defensive and tried to sit on my hand when I reached out to Fermi. It was very unusual behavior, since she's so timid most of the time. When I put Fermi back in the cage, she went back into her house. Luna positioned herself in front of the house like she was guarding it.

It is really sweet how Luna is "protecting" Fermi :)

Aww, that is lovely piggy behaviour! They definitely know if somethings up with one of their friends :)

Oh my god that is just adorable! She is so clever and she knew you would help so tried to communicate. Talk about Lassie!

Thanks :)

If she didn't do that, I might not have known until after the vets were closed. Thanks to Luna, Fermi got her antibiotics quickly :)

I just took Fermi out to check on her again. Luna went right to the spot Fermi was before I took her out, and started pacing over it until I put Fermi back :)

Awwww- that's super sweet! It's cute how they look out for one another- it really lets you see the relationship that they have between them!

When Frenzy was ill and having vet visits/surgery, Linney was always frantic when we took her out of the cage, and would lick and groom her when we brought her back. And last year when Linney ripped her nail back and bled quite a bit, it was actually Sundae going nuts that alerted me to the problem- Sundae was way more upset by the whole incident than Linney was!

Luna does seem more upset than Fermi. Fermi's acting normal except for the head tilt. She seems just as happy as always. Luna's the one that's all upset and protective of her.
