I’ve just heard Elizabeth make a strange sound whilst passing poo. It isn’t a squeak or a whimper just a one off ‘meep’ kind of sound.

I’ll keep an eye on her over the weekend and take her to the vets if it continues but any ideas? Can they make noise when passing a poo with there being nothing wrong?

Hi!

Personally, I would not worry if it remains a one-off, which does happen occasionally the same as with humans having a bit of a harder time. Keep in mind that you are a bit trigger happy when it comes to your piggies and especially in that respect.

See a vet if passing poos becomes more painful and very much more squeaky on a regular basis. As you know yourself from previous experiences, it will usually take several days for urinary tract symptoms to become regular and diagnosable for a vet, so just keep a casual eye on her but please DON'T hover or fret yourself needlessly into small shreds. In the case of something brewing, you won't very likely before next week as more symptoms make an appearance. It won't in any case be anything worse than you have dealt with successfully in the past. ;)

Especially seeing that your piggies have just had a check-up with Lindsey, and you know how careful she is.

Thank you :) She’s just done it again but the two poos she has done where she has made the sound have been dry and hard so that’s probably why. She’s also done some normal poos in between with no sound so I’m trying not to worry especially as like you say, she’s just had a vet check.

But I shall keep an eye on her over the weekend and have her vet checked should the problem continue x

Please don't worry too much Claire, all piggies like all hoomans have the occasional "bad poop" I know that Ollie does this when he passes a glob of slightly impacted caecotrophs, he looks surprised then freezes and goes "meep" then... blop! He's fine again.
Keep an eye on her obviously, but don't worry too much- if her poos are dry maybe a bit of extra cucumber might help? Or a bit of pro-C if you happen to have any? Not essential of course but if you wanted to take some affirmative action that's probably some safe little interventions :)

Thank you. I do have some Pro C probiotic so I may give her a little as well as some extra cucumber :) x

:agr: with @PigglePuggle tips as she has popped a couple of hard poos.

Probably due to the current cold weather and increased heating, which should be over by the start of the next week.

Makes sense re the heating as we’ve had it on 24:7 these last few days and their cage is near (not right in front of) the radiator) x

Elizabeth is currently out having lap time. She is still occasionally making the ‘meep’ sound when pooing and I have noticed that her poos tonight are softer than usual? Still uniform in shape just softer. Could she have a bit of a stomach upset? Should I take her off veg for a day or two?

Hi!

At this minimal stage I would just leave her be and see whether it corrects itself again. It is not a tummy upset yet.

If you worry about the meeping but it is not gettin any worse, then have her vet checked at your convenience durng regular opening hours in the coming week.

No, I wouldn't at this stage.

So Elizabeth has been making the noise again but only when passing cecotropes. Any ideas? She’s not squeaking when passing normal poos or urine

I would not worry if it is just a little one-off again but you can mention it on your next scheduled vet visit.
