I noticed while feeding my lovely Rosie this more that she has some kind of sore beside her nose. As I'm not as seasoned in Guinea pig care as most of you guys I'm wondering if any of you might know what this may be. I touched it with clean hands and she didn't react so I doesn't seem sore but i wondering if a vet trip is needed or if I can treat it at home

I can't say I think I know what it is, but a vet diagnosis is always best as you need to determine what it is in order to treat it (bacterial, fungal etc) and shop bought 'treatments' aren't really worth the money !

I have to say that it looks like a fungal infection to me but I am not a vet. Please can you get her seen at the vets for formal diagnosis and correct treatment. Would not advise treating on spec with anything you can buy over the counter as you need the vets to give you the correct treatment at the correct therapeutic dose for her condition and weight.
If it is fungal please do take precautions and you will need to do a full cage clean. Here is a useful link Ringworm: Hygiene And Pictures

Thanks guys, earliest appointment I can get is this evening, but she said she'll pop me in earlier if she can. I figured it may be something like that, especially as there's quite a bit of hair loss in the area. She was supposed yo have been checked only three weeks ago by a vet, but I can't be sure that actually happened as she wasn't with me

These things can develop quite suddenly so even if she had seen a vet 3 weeks ago it's still possible this wasn't present then.
Does she have a cage mate? If so it's worth taking the cagemate to the vet for checking, too.

Nope she's thankfully on her own at the minute, she'll vibe getting a cage mate next week so hopefully this isn't anything too serious

awww, good luck. You'll feel better for getting a professional diagnosis, but definitely looks like fungal. If you following the bathing instructions as given, things will soon clear up. I had an outbreak myself on my little fella Captain Jack, he's still recovering but doing fine.

Mabel had a nasty fungal infection last year. Took a while to clear it up but the vet gave her oral fungal treatment and she soon felt better. Here's a photo of her when she was at her worst.

I'm sure it is just something like this. Hopefully I caught it early enough!

Aww poor little pet! Also what a cute. I'll have to hold off getting her a little playmate till I get this sorted anyway!

So just back from the vet. She was very good, she told me she had guinea pigs herself as a child. She's not sure if it's mange or ringworm so she treated her for both. She's also very underweight. I explained I only have her two weeks and I know she was living in crappy conditions and only getting fed every other day with pellets and bits of lettuce. So I have to up her vit c intake, treat her skin twice a day, and bring her back in three to four weeks for a follow up injection and check. So glad I brought her now.

Hi guys another quick question. I noticed today her eye is slightly weeping. It's on the side that I've been treating with the ringworm wash. Could it be a reaction to that or something else?

Okay... She injected her for the mange but gave a little wash thing for the possible ringworm. I've noticed another bald patch behind her ear. Not sore or red at all, but I put the wash one it too just in case. Her eye seems fine now. Just initially seemed a little teary this morning but now looks okay again

Please make sure you keep any wash away from her eyes.
Just a thought - If you're new to piggies you may not be aware that when piggies wash their faces they produce a mikkynlike substance to lubricate their eyeballs. We don't see it often, but sometimes you can see it and it looks a bit teary. Is the eye still watering or squinty at all?

I'd also ask the vet to prescribe either intrafungol or sporanox to give in a syringe format into the mouth as that is the best way to treat fungal infections on the face.

Her eyes seem perfect again now... I may just be panicking haha. My mam said I'm like a new mother again haha. I won't be able to get back to the vet yet but I'll just be very careful cleaning her face and totally avoid her eyes

This is the bald patch I found behind her ear. Not sore, very smooth, unlike the other. Could this be due to mange? Included pics with and without flash

Piggies almost always have a bald patch behind both ears. It's part of their general "design" for want of a better word but can cause confusion in new owners. Does she have a patch the same on the other side?

Ah okay, it's not on the other side that's why I was wondering!
