Roger & Roland the Pigs
New Born Pup
I cleaned my two piggies out this morning and this evening noticed that there was a clump of four small lumps on the floor of the pen. Upon inspection they are irregular in shape and appears to be covered in some sort of sticky reddish brown gunk (presumably dried/semi-dried blood). They are very hard and smell unpleasant. I cleaned the largest and most round one (6mm in length) with water and it looks like the gunk has mainly come off, leaving it cleaner (as shown in photos). With the one I rinsed, it became softer and I could easily split it with my fingernail. The inside appears uniform and now the lump sort of has the texture of crystallised ginger (a bit harder maybe). I initially though it was bladder stones but now I'm not sure.
The lumps could have come from either one of my two piggies, Roland- Male, 3yrs, who is unwell and underweight, but still eating and drinking fine. I think that he has genetic diabetes (he is inbred ( ) and as all the same symptoms that his brother Roger (passed away now, bless him) had, details of Rogers condition can be found on another of my posts. I couldn't do much for Roger and I fear Roland will go due to the same illness but there was nothing the vets could do for Roger, so I doubt they can do much for Roland. Roland is still enjoying veggies and barging Nugget (the other piggie) out of his favourite spots, so there is nothing much I can do except love him and feed him critical care food when he wants it. Roland seems the more likely to have passed the lumps (they look like they came through a bum/penis, but I really don't know) but I have given him the best check over I can and there doesn't seem to be any more lumps in him or residue/evidence of him producing the lumps.
The other piggie it could be is Nugget- Male, age unknown but guessing 1-2yrs. Nugget appears to be in great health and when I checked him over he seemed fine except for a little harder section in what I think was his urinary tract or where his pee goes (not sure of the terminology), it didn't cause any discomfort or a fuss when I felt it but I will keep checking him to see if it moves.
My questions are: what are the lumps? what do they mean for piggie health? who are they most likely to have come from? and what should I do to help my piggies?
Thank you.
The photos attached have a ruler showing millimetre divisions to try and show the size better.
