Hi!
First of all: we have been to the vet. She told us that Pikachu seems like a healthy piggie ("very well fed"). She also noticed he is a very active and determined little guy.

And yes, he acts very healthy to us. He's eating, pooping, playing and is such a little chaos of energy. He hasn't lose any weight and we can't see any signs of URI or cold. No crackling sounds in the breath, no snot etc etc. Well, now I'm just sounds crazy...

But the best way I can describe it is that it sounds like he has a bubble in his nose when he talks. I can't really say if I think he sounds like a little monkey or a hen?
Ofc I was thinking about the heart, but the vet says the heart and the breathing sounds perfectly fine (no he didn't monkeyhen-talk to her, but he decided she was good enough to pee on).

I did send the vet a sound recording of the "monkeyhentalk" and awaits response, but maybe someone here have a good suggestion? We haven't been to this vet before, she is an exotic vet and seemed very competent but you never know...

In the cage the guys has peepads, fleece and hemp in the houses and peepeeareas. They get fresh hay in the evening, and we only noticed Pikachu sound weird in the morning... When he sounds weird he still acts completely Pikachu and not bothered at all. Pikachu is now 9 months old and we heard he sound like this maybe a handful of times, with weeks or months in between. It's not a daily or even common thing, but these sensitive little animals...

Thanks for reading 🙏

Jump 25cm straight up in the air? Pikachu does. He's not aloud to have that bridge anymore.

Does he have a companion? It sounds as though he's anxious (piggies make a warbling sound when nervous)

Yes, he have a real best buddy. We can't separate them for two minutes without them getting upset. Never a fight and they have two of everything.
I have been thinking about if he's anxious, because he's so active... But he can lay down and relax during floortime, even fall asleep in a hidey. I think he's pretty confident in his cage to, I can pet him and he licks my hands.

What other signs could we look for when it comes to anxiety?

Honestly he sounds fine. It could also be an inquisitive noise, some pigs make noises when they're happy or exploring. A sleepy piggy is not an anxious piggy 😆

If the vet is experienced and thinks he is fine it's probably fine - but I am curious. Perhaps you could somehow link the recording on here? I think it can be done but I am not sure how. I will certainly be interested to see what the vet says!
What a great thing to have pigs who are good buddies! 💕

You can post a video on here by uploading it to something like Youtube first and then posting a link to it here.

it’s odd if there are such big gaps in between episodes. My normal thoughts, after a URI has been ruled out, are all things which would mean you may well hear the noise more frequently but I’ll list them anyway so we’ve covered all the bases -
bedding sensitivity - he’s on fleece, but have you changed washing powder; hay dust - we’d normally suggest changing brand ; irritants in the room (candles, air fresherners, plug ins, perfumes etc).
Changes in humidity in the room?

I often here that noise when my Guinean pig is talking to herself 😝- or when she is talking to my other girl. It’s pretty normal, however how loud is it?

It's the first time ever I upload something to YouTube, so I hope it works to watch...
This video is from yesterday morning. It was going on for maybe 25-30minutes and he was acting all normal and was eating both hay and cucumber while making this noise. He became a bit stressed when my phone was "in his face", but he wasn't stressed before or after that.
I also saw, and see in the video, that he's taking completely normal, sound free breaths.

We have the same washing powder, but I was thinking about the hay... The standard of it is very good sometimes, and sometimes just sad.
We live in Sweden so the humidity does change a lot here over the year. Right now the air inside is very dry. Maybe that effects him?

Well, like my hubby says - I tend to be a bit of a drama queen 😁
My first thought was that maybe he has a URI or something going on, and then we have to be quick... But now I'm curious of what he's doing? For me a sick piggy acts sick or change their behavior. Pikachu is like Peter Pan and still popcorns around like a baby!

Is he just 'talking' to you? They can talk while eating. Does he do it more when the other one is there?

Yes, he does sound like that when his friend is around to. I don't know if it's more or less?
Ordinarily he has another kind of voice, more... Like a guinea pig 😅

He is a talkative guy and has always been. Both with us humans and with buddy. He likes to inform the world about himself!
