Does anyone know what this is? Can I remove it?
I would/could take a q-tip with warm water and clear the area, i’ve fully checked him and he has no sign of any other issue or dry skin at all.

He seems fine in himself and he’s weighing in the same. The only other issue i’ve noticed is he often has eye crusties, I have to clean/clear it almost daily. He doesn’t seem to have any fungal issues unless this is the fungal part?
No prominent signs of any skin issues in either of the pigs aside from this one strange lump in one of his ears.

He’s not shaking it or excessively scratching it.

I took a picture of my other boys ear and there doesn’t seem to be any issues with him, I found this dry area but it was in the creases of the ear so I thought they were to be expected. I don’t do any cleaning or messing around with the ears. Should I be?

It looks like a build up of wax? If he were mine, I’d take him to the vets to have it removed properly and have his ears checked as guinea pigs generally have clean ears. By putting a q tip in his ear, you could push the wax further down and cause serious damage. Of course, it could well be something else x

Here are hopefully clearer pictures of both boys and both ears.

Can a wax buildup just happen because as i said he doesn’t seem to have any issue with it?
Can I remove it gently and then keep an eye on the ear? I have a very busy week coming and having only just been to the vets last week I worry my mum will be quite reluctant.

I would be very gentle and try to gently clear away the mess, pushing/pulling away from the ear canal.
I would keep a close eye out for any issue and if the problem did continue I would book an appointment.

I’d probably try very very gently to wipe it off. Not going into the ear just on the outside. Is it on both his ears? If it seems stuck on or puss filled I’d get them to the vets for a check up.

You could try to very very gently wipe it with a damp cloth without going in his actual ear? Coming from someone who was at the vets weekly for several months, I appreciate your predicament but I’d still have it checked if you can’t remove it x

I’ve removed it gently with a q-tip dipped in warm water. I soaked up the excess water before putting it near his ear to avoid water releasing when pressure is put on it.

It came off easy and I could not see any sign of a pimple/cyst of any sort, it was also a “creamy” texture which I would associate potentially with ear wax. I’ll keep an eye on his ear for the time being.

Why does excess wax happen? Is it an issue or can it happen to even the healthiest of pigs?

I’m glad you’ve managed to remove it. Like us humans, excess wax can just happen. I’d keep an eye on him and take him to the vets should it become a problem x
