My Guinea pig keeps getting something stuck in her fur I never manage to get a good photo of it but it’s a beige/cream colour and gets really hard. I often find it near her back end and it need washing or cutting out. We first thought it was like calcium deposit but she’s only having celery and pepper and bottled water with 1tbsp of pellets so why is it still there?

Welcome to the forum.

Does she have a male cagemate by any chance?
If so, then it is probable it’s boar glue - dried semen. It sets rock hard and won’t come out unless it is cut out.

If she doesn’t have a male cagemate (and you’re certain it isn’t a male ie they aren’t new piggies or you’ve checked yourself), then perhaps you can post a picture of the issue

She does- but when I search that it looks white and this is more cream

Post a picture, but this is definitely sounding like boar glue.

I’ll try and get one next time as I’ve wiped it off her this time, but last time I had to completely cut it out and she ended up with a little bald patch because it wouldn’t come out at all

Yep, boar glue!
It dries rock hard and will not come out. Cutting it out is the only way once it is dried.
You can only wipe it off if it is fresh.

Yep, sounds like boar glue. Nothing you can do to stop it I’m afraid, it’s just your boar getting excited around your girl 😉 Perfectly natural x

My female has this around her bottom- is this normal or a vet trip? IMG_7064.webpIMG_7064.webp

I don’t have any experience of this but I’m bumping up your thread.

Are we looking at a bald patch?

Yes she does have a bald patch there because whatever this cream stuff is it dries hard and had to be cut out last weekend. The skin under is clean, dry, not scaly or itchy and hasn’t spread.

Oh I’m sorry didn’t realise it was the same thing thanks

Hi

That looks like a dried powdery calcium pee to me? Guinea pigs discharge any excess calcium via the urine (milky pees). This is a normal process and nothing to worry about unless you see those pees on a near daily basis. Your piggy has obviously sat in their milky pee and his has dried off. The odd calcium pee is not an issue.

They should clean it off on their next 'piggy wash' on their but if not, just gently wipe it off with a soft moist rag.

Boar glue is milky white and dries to a hard, somewhat shiny substance that eventually falls of on its own. Please do not try to rip it off from any skin since the skin may come off as well, which is is rather painful.
