I adopted 2 sows from a rescue in September, who joined 2 recently bereaved piggies - a boar and a sow.. The bonding went smoothly, not even teeth chattering, The past 2 weeks though, things have gone a bit pear shaped. My boar, Russell keeps chasing Bridget away from wherever she happens to be. He isn't rumble strutting, but seems to be making her life a bit miserable.
But Bridget for the past 2 months frequently puts her face very near Daphne's bum and then gets sprayed as Daphne shows she doesn't like it, but she also tries licking Daphne's ear.
As I am typing this Russell has approached Bridget and chased her to the other side of the C&C for no apparent reason, then he goes back to what he was doing.
Any suggestions?

Hi

How old is Bridget?

The rescue put her at around 2 years when I adopted her and her companion. All 4 of them are roughly the same age and (obviously) Russell is neutered.
Hope that helps

Thank you.

2-4 years is the height of activity from hormonal ovarian cysts. I would recommend to have her vet checked. Please be aware that the majority of cysts actually doesn't come with visible symptoms.

Guinea pigs have however a much finer sense of smell than us humans; it could well be that the group is reacting to pheromones she is giving off.

I managed to get an appt with the gp savvy vet today. Both Bridget and Mabel had a thorough examination and nothing untoward was found (a huge sigh of relief for me). I have to monitor their weight for the next 2 weeks and report back. This is the best news!
The reason why Russell chases her away from wherever she happens to be remains a mystery though.
