My piggies are mother and daughter 4&5 years old. But the younger piggie keeps doing that mating machine gun noise and wiggle, that i remember my one of my old boars doing years ago, to her mother :o At first I thought it was a dominance thing and that she might have been in heat but shes still doing it 2ish weeks on. They point eachothers backsides at eachother too when one trys to steal the others food and I think i saw the younger some squirt at the mother (but missed). Any ideas what going on with my gals? I assume they've been together since the younger piggie was born and they were in the rescue for 18 months and the rescue lady said they get grumpy with eachother.

Its a dominance thing as well is the rumbling it sounds as though it could be that as food pinching is involved. As for the squirting females normally do this to males when they are harrassing them, my sow pees on my boars head sometimes. I dont know why the female would do it to another female maybe the little one just wants to do what females do to boars sometimes.

Two of my female pigs do this rattling and spraying. If One tries to pinch the others food they will turn their back and give a squirt to put the other off. They will do it to the neutered male that is in with them too.

Nothing to worry about :)

mine do it too - and mounting behaviour - i hope it is a sign of dominance (there have been no babies yet! hehehehe!) i notice that the 2 not so dominant ones take it in turn to rumble at each other and get up in the rankings! you can kind of tell which one has moved up and which one has been demoted... as one will sit on its own and look humpish!

bless the piggies!

My girls do mounting and rumbling followed by an annoyed spray. I have always thought of it as dominance :-\

zoe is three and a half and jessie is one and a half, before jessie there was choloe, but zoe is so laid back that both choloe(RIP 0:)) and jessie rattle at zoe, wobble rump, and mount zoe, chase her around etc and zoe just takes it. it was the same with petal(RIP 0:)) and rosie(RIP 0:)) till one day i think when they were 4 years old rosie snapped and just went for petal so much i had to seperate them. wish there was a way i could stop jessie from doing it so then they could go back together. but while jessie is bossy and zoe not well they will stay seperated. hugs and cuddles :smitten: :smitten: :smitten: girls send :-* :-* :-*

oooh dear! I hope i wont have to separate them! They've been together for about 4 years as their mother and daughter, although they only came to me nearly 5 weeks ago. There has been a few mounting atempts and lots of strange ear and head nudging from greta. Lady Iris does give Greta whats what though, but theres no fighting or attacking.
love to you and your piggies :smitten:

No you will definately not need to seperate unless there is some heavy duty fighting going on. One of my older sows does this rumbling thing and it's quite amusing, she clearly thinks she's the boss ;D
