Hiya! My 2 foster guineas are terrors for burrowing under the fleece and getting stuck. I have changed them over to newspaper, megazorb and hay recently as I can't be watching them 24 hours a day and i worry about them.

I really would prefer to use vetbed or fleece though so any ideas on how i can stop them from getting under the fleece?

Also while I am asking questions, I don't see them eating much hay at all. Not compared to my other ones. I expect they are eating some of the cheap bedding hay I am using but I really want them to use the hay manger and the nice hay. If I switch to fleece again then do you think they will use the manger? At the moment they don't touch the nice stuff.

I was worried about this when I converted to fleece as my 2 are quite nervous, so I put a line of stick-on velcro around the cage tray and sewed another line onto the fleece. I don't know if it worked or if my 2 just have no burrowing instincts but they have remained topside :)

These are just suggestions :)
If they're in an indoor cage you could trap the fleece under the lid & if they're in a c & c either put the grids over the edge of the fleece or anchor it to the grids with pegs/bulldog clips :)

You might also be able to tuck it under whatever you have under the fleece too - might make it more difficult for them to burrow under.

Taffy and Tegan managed to borrow underneath the tucked under fleece within minutes!

I fix my fleece now under the lid of my indoors cages (you need big enough pieces for that!) That takes care of the burrowing for me! Otherwise the velcro approach will be the best way.

I have the same problem! I use profleece (like vetbed) they are little monkeys for getting underneath it.....I think I may have to try the velcro method! Will watch this thread for any other useful suggestions that may come along:)p
