I am taking Penny to the emergency vet today once they slow down. We still have to wait in our vehicles and that is stressful for her and me. For over a month she had infrequently peed blood, sometimes it would be on her poops when I would check the cage. It went away or would be so infrequent and the blood was not noticeable in the urine. Normal vet suspected UTI at first but potential for stones, as what x-Ray showed. She has been on pain meds and antibiotics. Once the antibiotics were done she was getting a recheck.

This morning, she peed heavier blood for the first time in 3 weeks or so. There was something in the blood, I picked up with a q-tip. To anyone experienced, what does it look like to you?

Penny has had two surgeries in her lifetime and I am not so confident as if this would either need surgical removal or if it would be too much for her. I’ll take any advice you can give, thank you.

Hi
Unfortunately, we can only speculate whether it urinary tract related or an issue of the reproductive tract. Bladder stones are always hard, though. Any soft matter is more likely to come from the reproductive tract.

All the best! The wait is always the hardest as your mind has free range to go on the worst case scenario rampage. :(

I had two pigs in the past who had UTI’s. Not only did they clear up after one round of antibiotics, but I also remember the blood not being thicker. What kind of things come from the reproductive tract?

I read a post from two years ago that you replied to Wiebke. You said a similar discharge was related to ovarian cysts.

That being said, Penny has shown symptoms for ovarian cysts for the past year. The vet has had her on watch since then, palpating (couldn’t feel anything), but she had enlarged and at times crusty nipples and periodic dominant behavior (not lately). The reason the vet wanted to wait for a Deslorelin injection, Penny since 2020 has recovered from a fatty lipoma surgery as well as a mammary tumor removal (this January). Once this round of antibiotics is up, the vet wanted Penny to come back in.

She has a bladder tumor. The ultrasound showed two masses, one on top of the other. Penny has gone from light pink urine to full on blood at times. All I can do is make her comfortable now.
