Pepper has had quite a rough couple of months. First a tooth root abscess operation which he took ages to recover from and start eating again. Then his friend Percy passed away last week while they were being looked after by my friend. He now he has a new friend Pebble.

I’m worried because his weight is still so up and down. Past few days mainly down. Since he’s been at my friends house they were bedded on towels as Percy needed soft bedding after his bladder stone surgery. I noticed that Peppers wee is bright orange. And I mean BRIGHT. Yesterday I tried for an hour to get him to pee on a puppy pad to see if it is coming out orange. But he didn’t wee 🤦🏻‍♀️.

Obviously I’m being ultra aware and cautious at the moment because of everything we’ve been through recently. I put him back in his hutch on wood shavings yesterday and there are obvious patches of orange where he has weed.

Should I be worried or is this just stress or maybe because I have given him celery recently (I’ve stopped the celery).

I will really try and get him to wee on the puppy pad again today to see if it’s coming out orange.

Finally after 1.5 hours he peed for me.

So it’s coming out this colour. He’s not crying while he’s going.

Should I be worried? I’ve spent so much at the vets recently I really don’t want to go if I’m just being paranoid.

It could be the colours from the veggies. orange pee is usually when it’s oxided. I would monitor him and wet all his veggies if he seems well in himself and see how it goes for a few days 🤞

He seems fine in himself apart from losing weight then putting it on. Then losing it again. He’s the lightest he’s ever been. 1060g. It Oxidises this colour.

I’ve had two piggies who have passed orange urine and after having it tested for blood at the vets (which came back clear), they said it was either due to a type of bacteria in the bladder and it was nothing to worry about or due to veggies they had eaten

I am glad that Pepper has gained weight m. He’s certainly worrying you x

Thanks @Claire W. That’s reassuring to know. I’m keeping a very close eye on him and he seems fine in himself.

Some of my piggies have passed urine and turned that colour (and much darker) but I put it down to something they ate. Carrots can turn urine bright orange for example while beetroot can turn it blood red. Mia passed urine pinky/red (it came out that colour) at the start of a potential IC flare (but there was no blood). I'd just monitor it for now, but I wouldn't worry about it.

I hope pepper continues to put on weight

Thanks it came out of him bright yellow and oxidised to the orange.

I’m sure his wee was milky white before. I’ll keep an eye on him 👍🏻

He has been through a lot recently. Being ill, having an operation, a very slow recovery, going to the boarders, losing Percy, coming back from the boarders and getting a new friend. Maybe it’s just stress 🤷🏻‍♀️

It tends to have more of an orange pinkish tinge on newspaper. He hasn’t had rainbow chard or anything like that? Glad to hear he has put on weight, hope the pee goes back to normal. Could you try a white towel/tea towel and see if it’s the same colour, as is it reacting with something in the paper towel?

Hi @Claire W. Did your piggies urine go back to normal or did it stay bright forever? Thanks.

So Pepper went off to the vets again today. I just want to make sure his pee is ok to be this colour. He’s going back in tomorrow morning for a quick conscious ultrasound to see if he has any stones or anything else wrong with his bladder. If it all looks ok then that’s just the new normal colour of his pee. I REALLY hope there’s nothing wrong 🤞
