Hi my normally active guinea pig has spent the whole evening still in the corner of her cage normally when I open the door she is 3/4 out before I can pass her food and runs riot when you try to pick her up but just let my wife pick her up tonight. Her sister was chasing her round earlier but now just keep going up to her sniffing her. Any ideas?

A change of behaviour warrants a vet check.

Please switch from weekly to daily weighing (at the same time each day) while you have concerns over her health, it’s the only way to monitor hay intake (you can’t judge they are eating enough hay simply by watching them). If she isnt eating hay and/or has weight loss, then please step in and syringe feed her straight away (again, daily weighing will ensure you are getting enough syringe feed into her to stop any weight loss).

The guides below offer further advice on how to help while you wait to see a vet

Thanks both will keep an eye on her tonight and if there is no improvement I will call the vets in the morning. Will also start weighing her daily
