So I am changing my girls onto fleece, I brought micro plush fleece from primark, on my friends advice I got this type of fleece. I am having a lot of problems making it not waterproof anymore :td:. I have washed it 4 times now on a 60 degree wash with wash powder. I am now trying to wash it again without detergent to see if this makes a difference. I have tried it folded in half on top of 2 towels and also single on top of 2 towels. In some places it went through but in others it still sat on the surface. It also still felt a bit wet even in the places that it went through the fleece. I am starting to pull my hair out with it. :hb:
Does anyone have any suggestions?

Have you tried to put an absorbant layer under the fleece to see if it 'pulls' the water through? I had the same problem with the B&M fleeces that I bought but started using them after 4 washes and they are fine now.

Yes I have put the layers of towels underneath but it is still refusing to draw through, I am starting to wonder if I have either the wrong sort of fleece or if doubling it up makes it too thick.

You aren't using a washing powder with laundry softener are you?
Softeners put the water barrier back onto the fleece.

When I wash my fleeces for the first time I do not bother putting any liquid or powder in.

Hmm, i think for my fleeces it actually took about 10 washes for them to start wicking properly.

Puppy pads usually work as a good absorbent layer, if not you could just try another brand of fleece:roll:

I haven't been using softener and I don't think my washing powder has softener in it, though I will check. I will just wash it without detergent and see if that helps. I will just keep going then!

i thought you weren't meant to use micro-fleece? i don't think it wicks very well. polar fleece is the better one :)

Really it's "micropill" fleece that you need, no plush. Plush has no wicking power really and it just sits on top. Perhaps changing the fleece will help.

The only fleece I use it anti pill fleece, which is the thinnest type of fleece which you can see in Primark or home bargains.
If you look in Primark, anti pill is the one about £3-5 not the more expensive throws in those elastic straps.

Did you buy many of the plush fleece?

Try washing it with a little drop of vinegar. It keeps the fleece soft and smelling fresh too x

I brought 4 of them, not the really expensive ones, they were 4.50 from primark. So if I have to change it to others then It is not too expensive, I will just make cuddle cups and beds out of the micro plush.
I am definitely going to wash with vinegar to give it a try some other people have also suggested it. My friend uses micro plush fleeces with her boys and has no problems with them not wicking away the moisture. I will try a few more things before giving up on them. I am also going to go and get a few polar fleeces from primark and the range, maybe ikea as I will need them for my new hutch anyway.
Thank you all for your help I will keep you posted on progress, lol.

I know the ones you mean. I have a few of those. They took about five washes. I hope yours wick soon then!

white vinegar is brill. i put a cap full in with the liquid and another cap full in the fabric conditioner section :)
