So I'm going to give the vet yet another call and ask her about this (again) as well, but I was wondering if anyone else has had this experience. I'd sure worry less if I knew someone had!

Pennyroyal was diagnosed with a sludgey bladder infection and is several days into a 2-week round of antibiotics, and she seems to be feeling much better, activity and demeanor-wise.

The thing that worries me is how absolutely gross and sticky her posterior remains. No matter how much I wipe her down, a few hours later her whole hind end is covered in foul-smelling urine and crusty, gooey, minerally sludge stuff again. I figure it's a good thing that this gunk is coming *out* of the piggy, but when is it going to stop or slow down?

I had a similar situation when Ruby had bladder sludge. She has a bladder flush which I think removed a lot of the gunky stuff, but it still took a few days to settle down. I just kept the fur as shore as possible and offered ongoing wipe downs with a flannel soaked in warm water.
Good luck - it can take a few days but it sounds like you are on the right track.

Thank you, this made me feel a lot better about it. Knowing my piggy isn't the only piggy to ever be so yucky.

I just gave Penny a nice warm bath and to my surprise she loved it! She went all loosey goosey and let me scrub her. She's much cleaner now. I might buy some piggy shampoo, normally I just use warm water for bottom baths. But it could be nice to have for situations like this where a piggy is unusually filthy.
