Does anyone know what I can get a sterile container (example medicine bottle) for a urine sample. I forgot to ask my vet, and I'm not visiting again for a while but they asked me to send a urine sample in, in three weeks time but I forgot to ask for one of the medicine containers they normally give me.

With urine samples they are easily contaminated so I wanted to make sure it was sterile.

Anyone any ideas?

Could you get them from a chemist? Or maybe a doctors surgery? I don't really know, but would be useful to find out if I'm to get a sample of Indy's to take in.

I was going to say nip to the doctors and tell the receptionist you need a sample pot for a urine sample, they'll be expecting you to bring it back to them of course you don't need to mention that its for the piggies

How are you planning on collecting your urine sample? it will be contaminated before you even put it in a container usually.

Usually a plastic box (like chinese box ) or a very very clean jar will be ok. If you really want a sample pot all i can suggest if go to the doctors and ask for one or a vets?

The most important thing is to hand a sample in asap as crystals and bacteria can form/multiply the longer you leave the sample before it is seen. Ensure you refridgerate it once you have collected it before taking it to your vets.

I just use a sterile syringe, and then pop it in the post she has already had two urine samples taking at the Vets, She's on AntiBiotics, as there is blood and crystals in her urine. I have to send it to the vets who will check it for blood, infection etc, and if anything is still present she will need to go back to the Vets again.

Thanks for the advice Abi, but I am following the vets advice just forgot to ask for a little Tub. rolleyes
