has anyoen any experience of this?

rolo started to go down hill yesterday afternoon, he was rather lathargic, and wasnt coming over to try get my attention for food. his eyes were half closed, and i suspected a respiritory infection.

i spoke to out of hours who werent much use atall just said to check pooping (which he was) and taking fluids.

i spent teh night up with him giving ensuring he was taking wtaer every few hours. and found a vet 60 miel from us who opens on a sunday.

so we are just back from Barnsley, where spent £58 on two injections, some ferplex (or name similar to taht its a paste with nutrients in) and five days worth of baytril which he starts on tommorrow (his jabs contained antibiotics today to get it straight into his blood stream).

it turns out he had a respiritory infection as i'd figured, and that as he isnt eating he's just starting with stasis (having rabbits i was already aware of teh risk of thsi which is why i wanted to get him toa good vet asap rather than wait to see mine Monday).thankfully duie to my preceverence he isnt dehydrated.

anyway i now have to give him thsi paste three times a day until i have got him eating again. just wondered if anyones used it before, and how they tempted their guinea back onto food?

i've been told that i should see a big improvement in teh next 24-48 horus and if not to contacted my own vet to take him in. fingers crossed we do. if he is fine after his five days baytril i can take him off it and he shoudl be alright from there.

Sorry not familiar with stasis at all. When my piggie is poorly or not eating critical care is very good and usually boosts her appetitie. You can buy it from a vets.

thanks for that.

rolos currently taking a gut stimulant named fibreplex. he has one measure three times a day (he had his first at 11.00 today, and his second just now). the vet has said that it should get his gut back in action within the next 24-48 hours. it also contains all teh nutrients an dvitamins he needs for the interim period until he is eating properly again.

he is seeming abit brighter, though far from himself. he did take a piece of carrot from my other half - talking grabbed it off him - about twenty minutes ago, and had a nibble, abnd tried a little grass too which i took from teh garden. so he does seem to be trying to get over it.

luckily i have a car park space all this week at work so will come home at dinner each day so that i can ensure he is getting fluids, if he isnt i can syringe him some. so the longest he will go without is 3 1/2 hours.

get well vibes really needed here guys. i know i've only had him three weeks, but i've really fallen for this little boy and his brother.:...

I don't know if fibreplex is the same type of thing as critical care but it sounds very similar. Hope he is feeling a but more himself soon. Please let us know how he's doing.

well as the days gone on he seems to of brightened up abit.

still not his usual self but he is noseying at anyuthing you put in teh cage now, and is currently sat on my knee and holding his head up to see whats going on rather than sleepingteh whole time liek he was before.

he put up a fight when i gave him tonights fibreplex, which to me though made it awkward to give him showed he had abit more energy, and afterwards he went in his cage and ate abit of grass and hay.

i wont take him off teh fibreplex until he's eating fully, but atleast he is taking in some foods voluntarily.

will see what tommorrow holds an dkeep you posted, but certainly tonight he seems happier than he has the last 36 hours.

just to let you all know rolo is coming along promisingly.

he had a munch on some peppers an dcabbag etonight, and is constantly nibbling at grass and hay. he's also drinking fien now too.

he's still on teh fibreplex, just until we see him eating enough veggies and muesli that we are haoppy his appetite is fully back to normal, but to say we are only 36 hours on, alls looking well.

he's pooping normally, and is very alert.

he's on baytril til friday to get rid of teh nasty respiritory infection that caused him to stop eating in teh first place, but his eyes have cleared up, and so it looks to eb doing teh job.

Thats good news :)
One of mine had gut stasis after a neuter op and I got fibreplex for him and also syringed him plenty of water and bio lapis. Georgie wasn`t really eating for the first 2 days so I syringe fed him CC and baby pureed veg.

On the 3rd day, he was pooing and eating again by himself. Sometimes after an op or stress or becuase of illness, the hind gut stops working. I found the fibreplex great :)
