I'll soon have the opportunity to start from scratch with my accommodation for the rescued guineas.

Currently I have an 8' x 6' shed (wish I'd bought a larger one!) and various outdoor hutches for summer use, and quarantine area in my kitchen (don't ask.. imagine indoor cages stacked into some sort of skyscraper!) :))

So, given that I can now start fresh, what should I do? Obviously the building will need to be larger, well ventilated and positioned correctly re: sun and weather. What's the best way to insulate a shed (and rat proof it?).

Ideally I would like all piggies to live in the shed (i.e no kitchen pigs, well except Zippy and The Fonze rolleyes), so I'll need a separate area for quarantine - what do other rescues do, have a different shed / space?

Any ideas welcome!

Thanks

You've seen my set up - several times :))

It works better now I have a bit of the garage as well - for rescue animals, yeah right rolleyes

I think the position of a guinea shed is quite difficult. The garage does protect mine from the sun and heat in the summer but it also means that it gets no winter sun which I think the pigs and buns would enjoy.

A friend of mine has a shed at the top of her garden during the winter so her piggies get a little warmth from any sunshine but she also has a summer house where her pigs live in the summer. This is at the bottom of the garden and shaded by a large tree so everyone stays nice and cool.

Think poor hubby really would keel over, or move out :)) if I asked him to build another shed somewhere else :x

Thanks Teresa - I love your shed and garage conversion, and it's always so snug... not like mine! What size is your main shed though? That would give me an idea of overall size.

A summer house eh! I would love a guinea pig 'folly' at the bottom of the garden but the idea is meeting some resistance at the moment!

Shed is 12 feet long by 9 feet wide - suppose I should have put it in meters but I'm still a feet and inches girl :))
