How hard is it to make a stand out of C & C Grids? ?/

I want to make a stand, 2 Floors and a hay loft... urm how many Grids do I need not too mention I need 2 ramps!?

It's for 3 piggies thinking 5 x 2.... or 3 x 4 ?

Wow like the sounds of that plan, you'd best check the floor space to see which will fit best. Sorry can't help with the stand hubby made ours.

I'll make it fit... if I have to live in it myself :)). I have a full attic which is floored... Could I keep the piggies up there?

How safe is an attic for piggies?

I think we established before that 3 x 4 was a bigger area. Are you looking for 2 floors like that one one floor and a hay loft?

As for the stand - keep the mesh ones for that and make sure you support the middle of the cage with grids and you should be fine.

Can't wait to see what you do!

Technically 5 x 2 is the same size as 3 x 4 is that right? :red

I can't see what I do either... trial and error I guess hehe!

But I have my metal ruler and invisible ducktape, got it from work yay! :))

I'm officially a loser :)) xx

Ps... Yes Lisa I basically want to copy that other persons... *hiding head in shame* Except mine is with grids. I will also attempt to add my own print!

Unless my caluculation is wrong a 5 x 2 is 13.34 sq foot and a 3 x 4 is 16.1 sq foot mind you it's been a few decades since I was an accounts clerk :))

How much ventilation and light is there up there?

Sorry to tag on to your thread, but can I ask... With the two story C&C cages, how do the grids on the floor of the 1st floor stay up? Do you need vertical panels from the ground to first floor to hold them up? Or do they hold themselves up? Is that a silly question? :red

Joanne - I asked about the diff of 3x4 vs. 5x2 as it was making my brain hurt so badly trying to work it out! Modwyn is right though, I had to draw it on an excel spreadsheet and count the boxes in the middle ")

example... (imagine there are panels around the edge of these crosses!);

compared to

X X
X X
X X
X X
X X

If you have the room, I'd def go with 3x4, although the 5x2 would be good to run along the edge of a room without sticking too far into the room (if that makes sense?!)

Also if you want to do sq footage here is the way if people will forgive me for teaching them to suck eggs :red

5 x 2 = (5x14 = 70 / 12 = 5.83 , 2 x 14 = 28 / 12 = 2.33) 5.83 x 2.33 = 13.58 sq foot

simples :{ :))

Oh assuming your grids are the standard 14 inch ones

Urm the attic is basically a room and has a sky light! I would say it's probably got more fresh air than anywere else? lol

I cant help with the CC because I dont use it but for the loft it depends how much work has been done up there,if it has only had a floor put in and the roof ceiling has not been boarded it will get very cold up there in the winter and very hot in the summer

Its insulated does that help?

I would stick a thermometer up there and check what the temperature is up there during the night.
My loft is just a basic loft with a floor and it goes well below freezing point up there.
My insulation is under the floor of the loft to stop the heat from escaping out of the rooms below

Thanks Graham! Bedroom it is lmao! :))

Azura Maemi -

The floor of mine held up but was a bit saggy - so I cable tied in underneather the floor a bookshelf bracket from B&Q -http://www.diy.com/diy/jsp/bq/nav.jsp?isSearch=true&fh_search=8711253679067&x=0&y=0 which has lots of slots in it so you cvan thread the cable ties in - I also used 71cm long brackets of the same type to edge my bottom ramp - will get pics on at the weekend.

Now the floor is totally solid and does not sag at all - it can easiy hold up the ramp to the hay loft which is quite heavy - here is a picture where you can see the bracket in place:

It only took a few minutes to fit and made a huge difference.

I also found that the perspex wall of the hayloft pulls everything there up so that it has a really strong and solid floor.

Also - I forgot - but putting the whole thing on an 18mm plywood base gave the whole cage a bit more rigidity - the ply cost about £25 and they cut it for free - I just measured the base, and then got then to cut two narrower bits too that I used to mount on the wheels (bought from ebay).

I made the cage bigger so I got some more ply this week and made another layer on top of this base the same size as the new cage and screwed it down.

I fixed the cage to the base with those "you" shaped staple nail things (don't know what they are called) and it is now really solid and wheels around easily. (Wouln't let me say the letter "you")

I love Love LOVE it! Hehe :) Must be costing you a small fortune to buy all the bits. You'll have one happy herd of piggies!

Well - let's just say I don't think I fancy adding it up :x.

The cage was a bit no expenses spared because it was supposed to be the girls christmas present - but as it got nearer to christmas they gave me a list each for santa...

Also my partner was a bit dubious about them being in the house at first - so the cage had to look really good and not like I had slapped it together.

Now he loves the cage and he was even behind the latest suggestion to put another "glass" wall on so that we could see them from the lounge. The Hugh Hefner Conservatory may now be called the TV room as they have a good view of the telly from there although I think I will be watching them rather than the TV!

Just wait till we get the web cam and start putting "Pig Brother" on YouTube! 8)
