sounds a odd question, but I have looked at the barmy for boars site and I cant really find anything that says what kind of bonding behaviour is acceptable ie rumbling teeth chattering to some extent etc or what to expect when trying to bond what not to worry about and what to stop. Obviously if they have a full on fight you would stop that, but is there a warning behaviour that may indicate this will happen? Can some one who has bonded boars give some good hints and tips?

Firstly, I think bonding boars is down to getting the personalities right! My first attempt went wrong for this reason. The baby boar immediately mounted Lennie which wasnt what I wanted to happen ;D
Bum sniffing, rumbling, some mounting, sniffing and scenting areas is all normal and they can be left to sort this out. Teeth chattering, rearing of heads and wide open mouths plus of course lunging at eachother probably means this duo will be NO NO for the friendship stakes!

I'd like to know what is "normal" too. Mine rear their heads at each other and make like a short spray can sound? What does that mean?

Some teeth chattering is ok, both S & T have done it at one another and it came to nothing. I would be concerned if they were circling one another, ruffling their fur up and of course attacking.

Twinkle has also done the open mouth thing, but has never attacked Sunshine (touch wood) I think they have come through the teenage stage pretty well. They are friends again now but they argue over getting my attention when I'm cleaning the indoor hutch out. :D

I've bonded lots of boars over the years and would just say to give them the most space possible and of course two of everything in the cage. There will always be issues over dominance and territory but I've never had any all out fights - it's more a case of "handbags" really!
