sself harming guniea pig

hi all can you help me got a young male who is bitting his back all the time and crying al time i touck him to vet last night and he was tread for ticks but I'm still worried a bout him biting him self any odeas what i can do hes worce with a female thanks
 
What was he treated with? It sounds like classic symptoms of mites.

When you say he's "worce with a female", do you mean he lives with a female?

no hes on his own but whe he can smell the girls he goes barmy i think its just all strang for him i only had him on saturday hes a way from the rest of my guniea pigs now and hes a bit quiter hes very friendly too
 
I agree, get him treated for mites. I wouldn't put anything on the wounds unless instructed by a vet as they can take longer to heal this way.

sunny's treatment is working now hes happy now and sleeping i panic to much the vet said it will take 24 hours she was right hes on a flease in my sick bay cage in a quiet corner in my house thanks a gain for all your help jenny
 
That's fab! Well done you for getting him sorted. I know what you mean though I panic like mad too, it means you care.

hi again I'm going to treaat all my guinea pigs i got 4 babies 4 week old can they be done wats the younst age to do them
 
If they are not displaying any symptoms then I would avoid treating them. It's fine to preventatively treat adults, but babies should only be treated if there is evidence that they are affected and do need treating. In which case, Xeno 50 is the best product for the job. (Ivermectin for piggies under 700g).
