=[ is that really bad for him? when i noticed he was heading towards it i tryed to get it without freaking him out and when i moved him it was gone.

and i looked everywhere and he must of eaten it. =[

It's a pig thing! They all do it and far from being bad for them it's actually really good for them. Kinda gross but just try not to think too much about what he's had in his mouth when he kisses you or licks your fingers!

Yep they do that to get extra vitamins, its a natural thing. :) Dad was here earlier and I said oh Fleur is munching on poo he was suprised! Not nice for us though! :D

Thanks, Louise, just nipped on to forum whilst waiting for my tea to cook! Not sure I'm so hungry now. Perhaps you could carry on this conversation on the diet thread? lol x

they have 2 types of poo anyway, the they eat the first lot to redigest what they couldn't do originally.

two types of poop? one being completely hard and one being a little moist?

cause the one he didnt manage to eat thank GOD i didnt grab it hard it was a little wet

I am feeling slightly sick now :)>>>:))

I'm coughing due to the flu and this thread has pushed me over the edge...:))

Piggies (and buns) produce 2 types of pellets. The hard ones you see in the hutch and caecotrophes. These are full of nutrients which they re-ingest & why you will have seen Squirt doing what he was :(|):(|)

mmm, TASTY! lol guinea pigs prefer to eat poops to scrummy stuff like grapes rolleyes yeah, they are meant to do that! hamsters and rabbits do it too. i guess chinchillas, gerbils and degues do it too?

Yeap, guinea pigs do eat some of their poos ... it is good for them! :))

So does that mean you shouldn't clean them out daily or they won't have a chance to eat it?

eating poo...just what you need when you've eaten your tea!:))

Glad we dont have to do that!

But I think I read somewhere that guinea pigs and humans can't store vitamin C but I may be wrong.

Baby piggies need poo!

I think baby piggies need poo from various older piggies to balance their gut - they also get living bacteria from poo. Good bacteria mind! Their version of yakult I suppose...
All the babies I have introduced to my little group have carefully eaten poos from the older piggies, all of them. I am the kind of person who observes this sort of thing and then worries about it! But the second baby did the same, the third and then the fourth. So perhaps they really do need them!
Has anybody else seen babies eating older piggy poo?

they get VIt D fromtheir poos they redigest!

try and avoid kissing your piggy after a poo eating sessionn, it can be rather smelly! :) hehe

normally piggies eat the soft ones straight from their bottoms! yuo will see them doing it but not notice what it is they are doing! they stand on hind legs and it looks a bit like they are iching their lower tummy or something. They somehow then eat straight from their bottoms! lovely :))
