How common is squeaking in pain when weeing sometimes after a bladder op? Vet is aware, I have told them. But I don't feel there is much we can do than see how she is over the weekend as she only had a bladder op a week ago. She squeaked a lot last night, but seen her do one wee this morning without squeaking. I have read that antibiotics can make sludge etc worse but as her wound hasn't looked right it was important to give it.

If she had another stone at this point surgery wouldn't be fair.

She is on antibiotics too. I'm hoping it's bladder irritation but I thought I saw some sludge this morning. Looked at the diet posts for sludge/stones. I don't know if I'm actually doing anything wrong. Pumpkin doesn't drink so I feel it could be this.

No blood in her urine which is good.

Hey, we were told blood in the urine and squeaky wees would be normal for up to 2 weeks post op.

My piggie has clear urine but does squeak when she wees, no where near as bad as it was pre-op.

Is it possible for them to get stones that quickly?! 😣

Oh good. Thank you for telling me that. It's been a week since Pumpkin had her surgery. I've read a couple of weeks after a stone could form. But I've seen her wee some sludge 😢

Have you changed diet at all?

Hopefully the squeaking settles down over the upcoming week 🤞.

I know no sludge is the goal but if she is weeing sludge at least it isn't trapped in her bladder - didn't realise they could form so quickly.

We had previously been giving a small bowl of readigrass as a treat previously which I have recently found out is high in calcium so we have ditched that.

They only have a small amount of pellets in general, but my piggie hasn't eaten any post op anyway so might just reduce even more (for her sisters benefit) and then remove totally.

She has been fussy with veg so have fed what she will take but are giving less, and trying to swap in alternatives but she doesn't like change.

My pig doesn't drink which I think is part of the problem.
Mine have pellets when my other pig Nancy comes out for medication. (Nancy is on 3 meds twice a day and has been for a year - she hated being picked up so I've tried to make it fun by just feeding pellets when out which she likes).

Food wise I feed round lettuce, green pepper, mini cucumber in the morning
Tea time romaine lettuce, red or yellow pepper, mini cucumber
Supper- cucumber & coriander

Feed a lot of cucumber because of the lack of drinking and it has helped Nancy with her bladder pain.

So I'm wondering if my diet is a problem but then Nancy doesn't have sludge, never has done (she's had 3 x-rays). I don't alternate because Nancy reacts to food changes. I do wonder if I was giving roo many pea flakes maybe.
But Pumpkin's tumour also could have caused some bladder problems as it was close (she had sludge on an x-ray when cancer was spotted but not convinced it's just that.)

Honestly my pigs so much going on.

Have you had many problems with your pigs? How old are they?

Ahh both my girls drink like fish, they have 2 bottles either end of their cage and they sometimes drink from one, run to the other and drink from that one. Awww poor Nancy, my piggies don't like medicine and find it stressful too (unless it's metacam).

We noticed some chalky wees in our other pig Annie about a year ago and was told about calcium etc so have always fed what we thought was low calcium based on the Guniea Lynx website, some of these we have since been told on here are too high. We also bought the Sherwood urinary tablets which are supposed to break down sludge and provide urinary support.. they each have 2 of these everyday (they won't take them whole so we crush them and mix them with water) and they love them, we just stick the syringe through the bars and they take it with no fuss.. how well this work who knows considering the size of the stone removed last week 😣.

We were also given a green (low), orange (medium) and red (high) list from the RVC which we have also been using post op but have also been told on here that some are too high, so we are trying to sub out certain things but it's hard when they're stubborn and won't try new things, it's either that or starve 😣.

We don't give things like pea flakes as I know they can cause digestion issues if given too many and I went through a traumatic bunny stasis issue and will do everything to not have that happen to the pigs so pea flakes for us are a no, not even 1 every now and again,

Your poor piggies both sound like they have really been through it (are they from the same litter) sounds like they have done so well though!

Both our piggies have boney eye and there was a vet at our practice (he has since left) who was writing a paper on the correlation between pigs with boney eyes and calcium issues which I thought was interesting, so it may be something my pigs are predisposed to.

My girls have not long turned 5 and touch wood we haven't had too many issues. Annie had a UTI a few years ago and was given baytril which almost killed her, she also now as arthritis and cataracts but she's so full of energy she bounces of the walls and seems like a happy pig, we just give metacam if we see she's walking a bit off (usually when it rains really hard or if it's cold) but it's not often. Grizzy touch wood has never really had any issues, she hurt her leg somehow back in March, was on metacam and bedrest for a little while but recovered and then this stone issue.

It's mad, I have had pigs since I was I'm year 7 at secondary school, which was almost 2 decades ago 😳 and have never had any sludge, bladder or any other issues apart from one piggy who had an ovarian cyst who unfortunately past away the evening after her surgery. In 16 piggies we have rarely (touch wood) had any issues so up until last year when we found out about sludge we weren't really in the loop about issues like this so it's just mad to me that it can happen when I havent experienced it before with my piggies in the past.

Such complex little creatures!

Remember that hay, grass and even fresh forage are the best things.
Veg is supplementary so they won’t starve without it.

There is no evidence, as far as I’m aware, that the Sherwood tablets work. If there was such a product which did break it down then it would be big news.

It sounds like diet isnt a problem for you if you've had that many pigs and only just now have bladder problems. These are my first pigs so find it hard to judge but then one of my pigs doesn't have any sludge, it's just Pumpkin 🤷🏾.

What does boney eye look like? Pumpkin has pea eye.

Pumpkin is still on metacam and squeaking sometimes, I think she is passing sludge 😢. Her wound looks much better though.

Hey, sorry for the late reply.

Boney eye is just a white bit of bone in the eye. One of my piggies only has a small spec, but the the other one has it going round her whole eye. We have been assured it doesn't impact her vision or cause her any pain, it just magnifies her sass eye. I think I've attached a picture.

My piggie is still on metacam too, I have been slowly reducing it over time, she has gone from 0.4ml to 0.35ml to 0.3ml and is currently on 0.25ml and no squeaks (Thank God, I'm so glad we increased it, it made all the difference to her recovery).

Could your piggie squeaking be a mental thing? I had a bunny who had regular dentals and each time she had a dental I had to buy a new food bowl because she associated her old food bowl with pain. Maybe your piggie is squeaking in anticipation?

So happy to hear her wound is looking better. She sounds like such a little trooper x

Oh yes. Mine have this too in varying amounts. Pumpkin has it more. What a cutie your piggie is.

I'm glad your piggie is doing much better.

It's definitely pain unfortunately. I had a cry about it today because I don't know if I will have to make a sad decision. But we will see. I think she's producing sludge still, as it's not everytime. But today has been particularly bad. She was at the vets yesterday having had some stitches taken off so hopefully stress has just aggravated it.

Thank you, she is a little cutie but I am bias 🙈

Sorry to hear your piggie is still in pain, poor little baby, she has been through a lot so hopefully it's just a case of taking a little bit longer to recover plus having the stitches removed. I know you said previously that she isn't a big drinker but do you know if she's drinking enough? Could you maybe have 2 bottles and put something in one of them to entice her, not sure what there is out there but there might be something. I have biolapis at home which I use when I have poorly pets, it's supposed to be dandelion flavour, I would recommend leaving it there all day as it may go stagnant, but maybe give one normal bottle of water and then a second bottle with that in to see if she drinks more based on flavour?

Sorry I forgot to reply to this. I tried some apple juice but they weren't up for it. I am currently giving a lot of cucumber. But I have blood again this morning from someone 😢. Don't know who yet.

The vet is going to ring me back. I don't think more surgery is fair.

Oh no I am so sorry, poor little piggies, both they and you have been such troopers with everything that has gone on this year. Hope the vet call goes as well as it can x

I have an appointment tomorrow. I need to decide if I'm putting her to sleep or not. Had a think since speaking to the vet and I'm wondering about doing an x-ray so I know.
