I decided to clip my piggies nails before bathing him today, and I noticed he had like a crusty yellowy flap of dead skin on the bottom of his front paws, I could actullay lift it up, although when I lifted it up too far he squealed at me so I stopped. I think its spurs, but how do I get rid of them? Does he need a vet?

It so hard to get pictures of piggie feet, he would not stop wriggling!

Hiya,

That doesn't look like a spur to me. A spur can resemble an extra toe nail. This looks more like pododermatitis (bumble foot) which is an infection and can be serious. It will hurt which is probably why he yelled out. A trip to the vets is needed to see exactly what it is.

As you say he wriggled so I'm not 100% sure but they don't look like spurs to me. :-\

Hope he will be ok,

Louise

His feet aren.t swollen or anything, when you lift the flaps of skin up, they look like perfectly normal piggie feet. He's always had weird feet, from when we rescued him, he had like an odd darkish area that looked like he'd had an extra toe than hadn't been removed properly, it didn't seem to bother him at all and his feet have been fine for three years now

After looking at pictures of bumblefoot I see what you mean and I will try to get him a vets appointment soon as soon as possible. :)

I think it's best and fingers crossed its not bumblefoot. Keep us posted! :)

I agree with Louise, it is best to have it checked out. Six of my pigs have spurs which we trim but that doesnt look like a spur to me either and it shouldnt hurt, so vets is best O0
