Today I decided to spring clean the piggy room, pull the cage out and clean behind it and wipe the grids (its made of a 5x2 with two 3x2 rooms joined on, to make a big L-shape- plus a loft! And mostly 2 grids high, so about 54 grids?)...
Oh my goodness how many poops and how much hay and what filthy skirting boards and grids at the back!
I only assembled the big cage in its current size at Christmas and I think I did a quick spring clean around Easter... mucky buggers these piggies!
I got a whole vacuum cleaner full of poops and hay just from the floor edges behind the cage, now I'm going to get busy with some disinfectant wipes on the grids and skirting board and walls...
How often does anyone else with a big complicated cage set up move it to do a big clean?

I have a large ish and simple L shaped 7x2 on a table and I don’t! The grids get a lick over with a brush to stop them looking too dusty but I dread to think how much hay is behind it!

That’s my set up, I don’t know if you can see but there’s a gap between the floor and the drawers where the run doesn’t cover, they kick hay, poops all sorts in there! I clean it every 3/4 times I clean out the cage (which I just do whenever it looks mucky, no set date) but behind the cage itself I don’t clean often, since I have to drag all the toys from the floor, the run, the blankets, the hides etc... so I only do that if I have a lot of time DE904024-5534-49E3-B19D-FF2F706D79BB.webp

I did mine in May... that will be it for a bit lol... although mine is a lot easier to pull out as the C&C is fixed to a board which then sits on top of a table so I can drag it out every week - i just forget lol! I do hoover everyday tho.. just not under there so i dread to think what is lurking :yikes:

I have a simple 4x2.5 c and c. I moved all the furniture so I could get behind it and under it the other week. My word! What a lot of hay and poops I found. It's a few months since I last did it. My excuse is that I need help to get the cage out of the way😊

Any chance we get photos?

It’s a fabulous setup though, at least we know about your gruesome cleaning escapades!
