Hi, I am new here. Our baby guineas just arrived last week and they have bumpy, itchy skin. One has scratched off a lot off fur and has bleeding scabs, including in the eye area. It has been virtually impossible to find a vet taking new families, but we finally found one on Tuesday who gave us an appointment for today. But that sadly got cancelled due to emergency surgery. We are very worried and hoping for some advice if possible. I can't see a way to post photos.

Hallo and :wel:

I'm sorry your babies are so badly affected by whatever it is and you're finding it difficult to find a vet to treat them. Have you booked another appointment with the one you did find, even if it's some days away?

Tbh no responsible pet shop or breeder should sell piggies whose skin is in such a bad state. Where did you get them? If a pet shop, then you can demand they pay for treatment as they sold you faulty goods in effect. (I'm assuming these patches didn't only just develop.)

I'm not an expert, but I do think they need treatment urgently. Could you get an emergency appointment with the vet? (Infortunately they do cost a lot ). It does need a vet to diagnose and to prescribe the correct amount of whatever medicine is needed as they are babies.

The big patches are probably lice or mites, but round the eyes is a common place for ringworm to start. I would advise taking care when touching them, ringworm spores spread very easily.

Best of luck with getting them treated x

Please do get an appointment. They need diagnosis and treatment quite quickly.

I agree with above - it’s awful that somebody sold them to you in that state.
Where did you get them from?
