Hi, my 5 and a half year old guinea Rexy has a very small lump on her back. It’s very similar to a spot- something like a human would get on their face(about the same size) it’s not irritated or red, it’s the same colour as her skin and doesn’t look inflamed. I’m fairly sure she’s always had it- as i’ve always felt something when i stroked her but never thought to look underneath her fur. She was at the vets 3 weeks ago where the vet gave her an examination and said she was fine. Both my guineas are on Baytril for a particularly nasty uri at the moment, so rexys breathing has been a little audible and her nose is a little runny but apart from that she’s fine. She hasn’t lost any weight, and doesn’t seem affected by it at all. I’m wondering if i should take her to the vets over this? I was going to take both of them back at the end of next week if the antibiotics hadn’t cleared up the respiratory infection anyways. Are these dangerous at all? It honestly looks like a little spot, i’ll try and attach a picture shortly.

I’ve just read that a lump the size of a pea on her back could be an abscess... which appears when a guinea is fighting an infection? Could it have appeared because of the uri then? Or is it a separate thing? Would the antibiotics get rid of it? She is on Baytril for another week.

Unfortunately the forum would be unable to provide incite to this problem even with a photo, a vet would need to diagnose the lump for you. It could be anything really, good luck with The vet trip and let us know how you get on.

:agr: Best thing to do is get piggy examined by a vet. Good luck and let us know what they say.
