I've just started using shavings and megazorb as the girls' bedding, instead of vetbed, but I'm having a bit of trouble spot cleaning. How do you do it on such a messy substrate? Am I supposed to go and pick up every bit of poop? ?/

I do filter through the bedding and pick up the obvious bits that are clumped together by wee. I intend to do a full weekly cleanout, but I'd really appreciate some tips on how to do a daily freshen up. :)

I use wood shavings and every couple of days I use a dustpan and brush and scoop up any yucky toilet areas.

Thank you. :) So do you just sort of take the top layer off then? Do you get a lot of wasted bedding?

I have what's been dubbed as the poop sifter. It's like a little trowel with slots in it to allow for the clean bedding to fall through but the poop and soiled shavings to be collected. Similar to the ones used for cat litter. It works kind of well but would agree that the dustpan and brush is more effective. As for wasted bedding, I've found if you lightly drag the brush over the shavings the poo will collect without too much shavings attached as they are heavier lol. As for toilet areas I tend to wear a rubber glove and use my hands to pick it up and it's easier than faffing about with the dustpan and brush!

I dont worry to much about the poops i just try and get the wet & damp areas up which are mainly in the corners. I guess i do waste a lot of bedding as I do seem to use an awful lot. I used to use my bear hands to do it but I realised how super unhygienic that was so I swapped to dustpan and brush.

Thanks hun, that's very useful to know. I wasn't looking forward to going after every bit of poop lol!

I can see why using your hands would be easier. The brush and dustpan is picking up a lot of clean bedding, so I might switch to a scoop or something.
