Hi all, I split my piggies up after discovering one was pregnant, and one was Male. Timon (pregnant lady) seems prefectly happy, but Pumbaa, my boy, seems really unhappy :(

He seems to just spend all his time hiding, or at the bars looking at Timon if shes out and about and he sees her. Its so sad! I have them in indoor cages beside each other, is there anything else I can do? Would it be better if they were apart so he couldnt see her?

May i just start by saying they are some adorable names ! i love lion king :3

And i think maybe some floor time together might be nice, as she's already pregnant I'm not sure how much more damage can be done after sort of thing, I'm sure someone else can help more ! (:

Hi DebJ

I would not advise floortime together - she is pregnant and stress at this point from a male that is excited to see her again will not help.

Give Pumbaa more time having cuddles and treats with you for the time being, place a teddy or soft toy for him to snuggle with in the cage. He will not be rejoining Timon again so the break has to be made. Unless you intend to get him neutered (not a light decision as it carries it own risks) there is little point in prolonging the separation by allowing him time with her only to split them again. It really is a case of tough love on this one.

Once the babies arrive she will come in to season within hours and you may find that he will go a bit nuts trying to get to her - it may be worth moving his cage.

Any baby boars can move in with him at 21 days old so he won't be alone for long.

Thanks for that I just feel so mean!
I'm looking into getting him neutered so they can be reunited but not sure yet what the plan is, just wasnt sure if I was being kind or cruel by having the cages beside each other if you know what I mean!
